My DD is considering Ursinus. We've heard it has a strong pre-med program with good advising as well as high placement into med schools. They're also offering an attractive merit scholarship which is very appealing. We will not have a chance to visit this fall so we're looking for some insights from those of you in the know. I'm hearing mixed reviews on Ursinus. Most students seem to enjoy the academics, but the social scene sounds like it's less than ideal. Most of the negative comments I've heard are primarily concerning the local area and the lack of things to do. If anyone can shed light on the following, it will be greatly appreciated.

1) Are you enjoying your time at Ursinus? If you could press rewind, would you still attend?
2) For those students that bring cars, does this address the lack of college town when one can easily get to places off campus? (We live in New England, but have lots of family in Phila so I'm thinkig DD won't feel so isolated)
3) How's the diversity on campus? Do all students feel welcome and is there a sense of community?
4) How's the school pride? Do you see lots of Ursinus sweat shirts around campus? Do kids support sporting events, etc?

Hi! I am a 2011 alumna and I LOVED UC and do not know anyone who didn’t. I am now a second year law student and I randomly meet UC alums all the time who say the same thing. To answer your questions:
- If UC had a law school I would have gone there; that’s how much I love it. In fact, I am on the Young Alumni Council and am still actively involved with the school.
- With or without a car, you never feel isolated. I do not have a car my freshman year and was never bored. There are always activities on campus/ brought to campus to keep you busy. The school has a small, walkable town an is a quick drive to a large shopping center with a Movie Tavern, Wegmans, restaurants, etc… Additionally, there is an outlet mall about 15 min away. It is very easy to find someone with a car if these are places you want to go to. Also, your RA usually hosts trips to the outlets and the grocery stores not in walking distance.
- The reason I went to Ursinus is the sense of community I felt/feel there. Not only is the school committed to your education, it is committed to your life experience.
- EVERYONE walks around in UC gear; we always used to comment that when we visited friends at other schools that people there weren’t wearing the gear for their own school, but at UC everyone does. Also, students support ALL sports. I had friends that paints their bodies for football, basketball and gymnastics.

Thanks VU for the informative and reassuring response. It’s nice to hear from someone that has experienced the school as the marketing hype is all starting to run together:-) Good luck in Law school and we’ll certainly reachout if DD has any additional specific questions.
