Are You Supposed to Title Your Essay?

If the ED school you're applying to has an open-ended essay question (basically, you are able to write about anything at all), should you title your essay? I'm not completely sure what proper "essay etiquette" is, and was hoping for some insight.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I think a title would be a good idea especfially if there is no specific prompt you are responding to.

Thank you so much for the input, flyboy! That was the side I was erring on, but I wanted to put it out there and ask around before I title the essay.

A title is useful but not obligatory. It provides a hint for the reader about how you want him to interpret the main thrust of your essay. It can reflect wit or poetic sensitivity or linguisitc creativity. Obviously, ""How I spent my Summer Vacation" won't get you far unless it is cleverly ironic with respect to your essay content.
