I want to know if anyone else is like this.

I've been an honor student all of my life, and am very highly ranked in my class (top 4%).

I've also always been lazy. I do all my homework at the last minute, I get perfect test scores after reading just the summary, and manage to win the favor of teachers despite the fact that I sleep in their classes. While my procrastination skills have allowed me to master the art of the bull***** (i.e. writing amazing essays on books I've never read), and the rushed report (i.e. whole independent studies within the span of two days.), I'm a bit worried about how I will handle college.

So this year, I'm practicing studying, and forcing myself to start homework on Friday nights. Finishing these college apps doesn't help either.

What's worse is that my school has a really tough honors program, yet on my worst days, I get 90s. On days when I REALLY try, I can outperform even the valedictorian, but I just don't care enough.

It's my senior year, and I'm just starting to learn how to study. It's quite sad, really.

i'm like curiouskatie. i work really hard and have earned my grades and rank. however, i wouldn't say i'm jealous. i'm just angry that people who procrastinate, bs, and such are able to get better grades than me. i can't do much about it, so i just tell myself that they'll get a nice little shock when they get to college. only trouble is, i'm not entirely sure they will.

yeah you pretty much described me right there. i need to learn how to stop procrastinating and get some motivation cause i know it'll screw me over in the end

hmm people like you annoy me. LOL. I have to spend a godo amount of time studying, doing hw, writing papers and reports to do well in school. I wish i could slack and still be an awesome student.

I'm like CuriousKatie/Ck6, but only in math/science classes. I have to study so much to get decent grades in said classes, all the while there a group of students who can do practically nothing and still ace the tests. AP Lit is a different story. When everybody around me is scribbling down notes on an essay prompt and paying close attention to the teacher, I am concocting comedy bits/scenes in my head. Generally, the day that the paper is due, I will write it in my off periods and get a perfect score. It feels get to be the succesfull slacker in some part of my life!

nah, i'm in college now, and i'm still just like the OP. It's working out ok for me so far, so I'm not planning on changing just yet. When I start needing to work harder, i will.

Grad2005 and the rest of you like like him/her, you will have an even easier time in college than those that spend a lot of time on their work. Being efficient is an amazing skill to have in college. And you guys will thank yourselves for the times you prepared (er, procrastinated) for stressful, overloaded moments in college.

I've tried to start my assignments earlier, but words just seem to flow out better when I'm under extreme pressure.

But lately I've started studying. I've actually stayed awake while reading an entire chapter for AP Chemistry. And I'm actually going to read an entire book for AP English, cover to cover, and not just work off the sparknotes (God bless 'em!).

And I plan on doing homework Sunday afternoon, not on Sunday night. Or maybe Monday morning. (Baby steps, people. Baby steps.)

Sounds just like a girl at my school. For example, I work my butt off in Economics and am ranked first in that class while she (so she claims) hasn't read since chapter 7 (we're on chapter 19) and she is ranked second in the class. Also, she took the same US history class as me last year and, while I worked very hard in that class and got good grades, she did very little work and her grade was often near mine and she routinely did better than me on essays. Last example: she claims to have stopped reading the biology book after the first semester, but got a 4 on the exam. How is this possible???

I study quite a bit although I could get by with less. I tend to not remember things the first or second time through so I need to keep going back. I have only known a few people in my life who always wait until the last minute to do work and do very well. I don't know if it is because they are very bright or if they are lazy and have been last minute people all of their lives that doing work at the last minute is the only natural way for them to work...so in the end they do just as good as someone like me for which studying for a long time is natural.

Many people don't have the self-discipline to sit down and study weeks before an exam. But why study for 5 hours to get an A if you can get the same grade with 1 hour of studying.

If I had the ability to do great work in a small amount of time I would do the work far ahead of the due date, just to make sure no uncontrollable factors get in the way at the last minute (computer crashes, car problems during the commute to school, etc.).

I dont study, pay attention, read, do notes, review, i do my hw, sorta half arsed, and i do my classwork if i ahev to...Mostly i just sit around, watch tv, build computers, and play computer games... thats it...no wonder i have a 2.9/3.6

Don't be angry at people who don't work as much as you but get higher grades. That's life. Where there is something to be admired of a natural genius, there is something to be admired of a conscientious worker as well.
