I was reading Pratt's student review and it’s quite upsetting. Students' academic standard, administration error, sad excuse of web site, falling apart facility, etc.
We live close but never visited yet and you’d never know how much is in fact true or not but overall they are consistent good (instruction) or bad (all else).
I am half glad did not apply to their summer program, though loads of good reviews in this site in other thread.
RISD, we visited and I have funky thread here. I can see RyanMac and kalonity there totally fitting in but not so sure of my son (not only $ but grades and attitude)
He enjoyed visit immensely and was reading their catalogue cover to cover in the Amtrak home and wanted me to help him apply to pre college though aid money possibility is nil.
Let’s hope formula of: working on academics+ doing best + getting to school on time + actually do some prep for SAT = RISD kind of schooling would become affordable somehow could materialize in his head. I think I will leave this window open casually.
Thank you all.

bears and dogs, do NOT go by Students Review. I have found them to be very, very biased. I know for sure one kid who posted negative comments about another school multiple times under different headings. You really can't trust Student Reviews. They might, however, raise valid questions for you to investigate upon touring the school.

Taxguy
I thought you have mentioned before to refer to student review about RISD? oh well.
How about other social network? I don’t paste them because I think you (guru) said we can’t but I found this heart breaking story on livejournal cooperunion community.
The boy from Florida’s famous art magnet HS is accepted to Cooper and SMFA is offering full ride that he is more inclined to. I had suspicion while reading posts and now confirmed his family is so poor he never visited schools yet, just local NAPD and reps’ talk and teachers and friends talk he is deciding on which school to attend.
He will be crashed and disillusioned by many things if he were to choose SMFA without knowing what he is getting into. I can’t say Cooper is the better choice or anything but it is at least NYC, not Backbay in Boston.
I am re-thinking about our situation. I did not know that we had quite many advantage being in North East couple hours public transportation away and in between RISD and MICA and everything. I am poor but not dirt poor that I can fly my kid to CA if I want to with whim,
I am going to stop whining and start looking brighter side of everything.
Thanks.

bears and dogs, I just feel that the comments on student review shouldn't be taken as gospel. However, there may be some truth in them ESPECIALLY if there is a trend among the comments. In that case, this should warrant further investigation by you or anyone else investigating the school.

As for Pratt, yes they did have some falling apart facilities and some poor administrators. See my review of Pratt found in both the college visit forum and in the Pratt forum. However, maybe they fixed these things since my review two years ago.

My son and I visited Pratt last fall, and I can tell you they haven't fixed up the facilities. Between the poorly maintained campus and the lackadaisical, somewhat haughty attitude of the administration, I ruled out Pratt immediately.

Pratt was the only college on my son's list that I said I wouldn't pay for.

Dear Taxguy:

My daughter is starting the Corcoran program next week. She has the choice of one teacher the whole day for painting and drawing or 2, one being

an adjunct faculty drawing teacher who we heard grades strictly, or a woman who is a photographer but teaches drawing and painting. Can you give me any input on this and is the grading harsh there? My daughter is concerned that the grade will be on the permanent Corcoran records. Would this grade have to be sent to any college she applies? Thanks.

Cadmiurmred. Sorry, my daughter only attend Corcoran during the summer of her Junior year in high school. Grades can be sent to colleges if she asks the college to send the grades. Generally, I have found that the grading at Corcoran seemed very easy compared to other programs.
