Are you updating your RD schools about NMF status?

It seems like the general consensus is a no, but it wouldn't hurt to, would it? Thoughts?

I've applied to a few Ivies, top LACs and universities, etc.

I called a school S has been admitted to about another topic, but mentioned in the conversation that he was a finalist. To my surprise, I found out that school has a Nat’l Merit scholarship, which he could get on top of the very generous package they’ve already offered. He’s already been admitted everywhere, but we are planning on sending an updates sheet to the schools he is waiting on scholarship info from.

You’re lucky if the school will add the scholarship “on top of” a generous FA package. Many schools will just replace some of the aid with the NMF scholarship.

Is the consensus no on this? I was thinking of having my daughter update her schools.

It cant hurt to update schools that DO sponsor NMF’s. the Ivys and schools that dont sponsor NMF wont care. Check NMSF first to see if the colleges you have applied for are sponsors.
Go to their website, click on the 2010-2011 annual report icon and download the report. The list of colleges sponsoring NMF’s starts on page 38
