Generally classes are once per week (long 3 hour night classes, don't take them if you don't have to), about 45-55 minutes MWF, or 1.5 hours TR. Then labs and stuff (if a class has one) will get tacked on on "off days," so a MWF class might gave a T or R lab.

This is what my class schedule looks like:

Generally each class will be two or three days per week, usually MWF or TR. The three day a week ones are about an hour long (11-11:50 for example) and the 2 day a week ones are 1.25-1.5 hours long (for example, 8-9:15, 9:30-10:45... this is what my school does). These are both probably 3 credit hours unless there's a lab attached on a different day which might make it 4 credits. (ex: TR 8-9:15 chem lecture, F 11-2 chem lab)
Some regular non-lab classes that are four credits are four days a week. My precalc class was MWRF.

Offering another situation, one of my classes (Evolutionary Biology, 4 hours) has a mandatory discussion group that meets once a week. There's a variety of times we can choose from, however, and as long as we go to at least one a week it doesn't matter which we go to--it's perfectly fine to switch times without warning.

Most class are either MWF or TR, though, unless they're four-hour classes like those AU mentioned. First-year languages are always four-times-a-week classes in my experience.

Oh, and I disagree with cewillm about labs usually being on the non-meeting times for their lectures. My university usually offers both options. This semester, both my Organic Chemistry lecture and my lab for that class will meet on Monday, and it's quite possible for someone in Organic Chemistry to have a lecture and immediately go to the lab when the lecture is over. I was actually going to do that to cut down on travel time, but it didn't fit my schedule.

SolaCatella - most general science classes have separate labs that you pick whenever you want, but for labs in my major they are tied to the course and don't count towards the class' credit hour count.

All of my lectures this semester are 1.5 hours long except for lab which is 3 hours long and I have it twice a week. I have Chem lab, Psych, and Physics on Monday+Wednesday, and Chem lecture+Genetics on Tues+Thursday, and another Chem lab on Friday

Really? All the science labs I've taken but this discussion group were mandatory and counted an hour towards the credit count. They do typically have a variety of times, though you have to pick one and stick to that--no switching without going through a bit of work.

Nope, my labs are all in my major though, not general science.

Different colleges handle labs differently. At my colleges labs are not optional and also do not give the class a higher credit value.
