re: toxic waste
I am not familiar with the campus. Do you know if this is in the middle of the campus, or what the proximity is to areas students would typically frequent?

Paintshop Pond is on the northwest edge of the Wellesley campus and gets no traffic from students. There are a series of little glacial lakes in this densely populated suburban area and Paintshop Pond is one of them. Wellesley/Natick is an extremely affluent and politically connected area, and if there were significant exposure risks to the gilded children of the western 'burbs from Paintshop Pond, there would be a major outcry and heads would roll. No one goes swimming in Paintshop Pond; the clue is in the name.

I am baffled as to why zobroward would think it an issue and I would interested to see his sources that it’s “still a problem.”

Sheesh, maybe check the facts before posting obsolete info like that.
Looks like considerable funds were spent in 2002 to fix the Paintshop Pond. It looks beautiful now, see the pictures at the construction managers website -

Shoboe it looks like we will have a very similar list- but my daughter’s list will also include more in the northeast. When we did this with my older daughter we started in October of junior year. We visited about 15 schools and she narrowed the final list down to 8 that she applied to and was accepted. We visited the schools again and she narrowed the list to 3. Since the schools were all near each other my husband was able to visit with her again until she got the list down to 2. I am happy to report that she just finished her freshman year and truly loves her school. The entire floor was in tears when everyone went home for the summer. The selection was a real process and was not to be taken lightly ( at least for us). My daughter’s friend did not look at any school and did not visit her school before deciding to attend ( she loves it thank goodness). I think that the kids who post on those sites tend to be the ones who are not happy. I also recommend not listening to well meaning " friends." We were told by one person that my daughter’s school is too easy( it’s not), it’s boring ( she is not bored), there are no hotels in the area ( not true), and everyone drinks ( some do, some don’t). This person’s kid went there and transferred. Mine loves it- everyone is different.
