I swear I want to stomp on my AP Lit teacher's foot! GRAHH.
She's assigned a major project..the week of HER CLASS' AP TEST. What kind of teacher does that? My Biology teacher has been understanding...my Govt teacher has given me work
I'm not doing any of it. AP exams are my main priority. Are any other teachers this stupid across the country? :S
I feel a little bad for not doing the work but..I just can't do everything. :/

Who cares about AP tests ?

I had an English paper due last Friday, but our class complained and complained so much that she finally postponed it to two weeks later.

^ I attempted to approach my teacher and I said, “I might not get all of the project done, but I’ve made a definite effort…I just have 3 other AP classes to worry about right now.” and she said, “Well, my class is just as important.” o0 No, it’s not. Your class has been nothing but busy work the entire year and now you’re scheduling said busy work when it actually COUNTS? I can’t respect that. >< The woman has a ~50% pass rate sooo it’s not as if what she’s been doing has worked…
Bah, people frustrate me. hah.

:(. Well, at least you’re heading to college already so high school GPA doesn’t matter that much anymore. I hate it too when I get too much busy work the same time as things that actually matter… just take a hour or so tonight to work on the project, and make something half decent to give to her so she can count you as having done the work.

what kind of project?

As for complaining about deadlines… lol, it only works when it’s a group effort :p! I think we are such slackers (my English class) that we’ve become experts at this. We are never more united under a common aspiration than during moments like these.

^ We basically have to write these theses/summaries for all of the books we’ve ever read (15 is the minimum). It’s easy but time consuming. I’ve done 9 and I’m done, haha.
And yes, I’ve gotten straight-A’s otherwise so my GPA would round out at a 3.85 if I get two B’s this time around (in AP Govt & Lit). I think I just need to learn how to relax! :p

EDIT: And YES! Nobody complained about this busy work project…I was surprised. Then again, 4 APs is virtually unheard of in my school so I’m kind of a lone wolf on this one :/

summaries? aww. I guess you can browse through wikipedia or something and just paraphrase whatever it’s said on there. On the plus side, you’ll probably remember the contents of the books now that you’ve basically retold the stories for this project. (which reminds that I better go through sparknotes tonight to remind myself of some of the books - somehow I can never remember the right book for those theme essays until after the exam’s over Is this a common phenomenon?)

The summaries aren’t an issue. I’ve already utilized Sparknotes to its full potential. The darn theses are what takes some thought D:
I already have my favorites on hand:
Scarlet Letter
The Stranger
Jane Eyre
Brave New World
I won’t be needing any more. Nor will I remember any more, haha.
Had a 5 on Lang last year. We’ll see how it goes I guess.
What she doesn’t get is that…a week before the exam…well, 1 day now…you will either PASS or FAIL. This project will not save you. It did not save a friend last year that had straight A’s all throughout her class and received a 2 on the exam.
Could you fathom why said friend did not pass? It was because she had poor analytical and mediocre writing skills.
This lady is just impossible.

“It did not save a friend last year that had straight A’s all throughout her class and received a 2 on the exam.”

Is it even possible to get a 2 :/? Mm, that does not bode well for my prospect for tomorrow.

I love Jane Eyre and Scarlet Letter, but not so much Brave New World. I usually just pick a book out of the list that the exam provides with the prompt.

^ Yep - AP exams are graded on a 1-5 scale. It’s rare to see 1’s or 2’s floating around on CC as pertaining to AP exams but there is a good portion of students who take these exams that receive these unseemly scores (gasp ) heheh.
I don’t think I ever could, personally, because I prepare aptly for exams. I expect 3’s on two of my exams and 4’s and 5’s on the latter two.
Brave New World was interesting to me. I’m into the weird books, though. (e.g. The Stranger)

The Stranger? I never read the book, but isn’t it about some person who thought the entire universe was turning against him or something like that?

Haha, I think you get a one just for putting down your name, and 2 for writing down a few things that can be considered remotely sensible.

p.s. - I love the slow digression of this thread!

^ Indeed, this further confirms both my teacher and former friend’s incompetence.
The Stranger is by Albert Camus. Some Algerian dude who might’ve thought the world was against him (I’m not sure).

The main problem for me is that I get so much work from my non-AP classes (ahem, gym). I already have 2 projects due on Friday, including a research paper that needs to sent by midnight. In addition, I have a lot of pointless tests/quizzes scattered throughout the week. My AP Biology teacher isn’t really bombarding us with anything unreasonable (if anything, she’s going a little easier on us this week - helping us cram more effectively).

Reading it right now.

My school is stupid and decided to give us the ACT the week before AP exams. I also had a research paper due for an honors class, and one due this week for my AP Lang class. My APUSH teacher has been cool and we are just reviewing in class without any homework. I have so much Lang homework besides the research paper too… It’s more then I get in APUSH. Speaking of unreasonable my calc teacher told us “I’m going to destroy you with homework during the next week until you puke”. So happy calc is over with.

My school made a policy change yesterady to take effect immediately concerning APs.

If you have an AP exam, you are not required to attend any classes that day. It used to be that you had to go to classes after/before your exam, unless you had two exams, but now they changed it. People left anyways. =/

My Lit teacher is providing free breakfast before the exam tomorrow lol :).

@Porcelain - what the heck?? xD Until y’all puke? That’s a little overeager dontcha think? lol.
That’s interesting you say you have a lot of Lang hw. My teacher was extremely laid-back about that all, I guess. I never EVER had homework in there; if so it was very minimal. Glad I got my 5 still, though.
AP Govt - Some review questions on public opinion (the most common sense based section, I know o_0) and a quiz. Not doing either.
AP Lit - That meddling project!

EDIT: And my Lit teacher is going to be gone somewhere for tomorrow so…I don’t think she’s showing up. Thank goodness. We don’t get along on many levels. :p

I’m not a proponent of existentialism but the philosophy is really interesting. That’s why I like the story. I wish I could read it in French…but alas…I’m in Spanish V and there’s pretty much no turning back. xD

at my school they would like people to report before and after the actual AP exam starts and finishes, but people just straight up come when the test starts and leaves when it’s over. no one cares either.

YES. The AP teachers are being nice about it, but the regular-class teachers are refusing to stop just because of exams. My school allows every student to take off from school on the day before and they day of each of their exams, and you have 3 weeks to make up any tests or assignments due during AP season. Since my school pushes people to take so many APs, it’s only fair, and the administration and most teachers support this. But all the teachers for regular-level classes think that their classes are the most important, so they assign tons of homework and tests to compete for attention with all the AP classes. It’s ridiculous, because there is NO way that I am sacrificing a score on a test that I have spent tons of time and money to take JUST because I had a Spanish quiz or a religion project.
