On the Rice application, there is a section that asks you to check off your major areas or concentrations of interest. Will this factor into the admissions decision at all from what you choose? Also, generally how many should you pick and should these interests be spread out over different schools? or more concentrated on the school that you are applying to? Thanks!

Pick however many seem interesting to you. I think this is primarily just so they don't get 600 prospective history majors, 50 musicians, and 50 architecture students in the class. But I can't imagine that it really counts a lot. I think you probably shouldn't pick all of them or anything - I maybe had 8 or so. It's fine to spread them out, but at least one should be in the school you are applying to or they'll probably be confused why you are applying to that school.
