Tennis coach just called me and told me i didnt get into stern but i had been referred to the gsp. Now i'm not so sure i'm going to go to nyu. IMO, gsp is just a way nyu makes money by making sure the classes in the individual schools are filled in case people transfer out. o well, i didnt expect to get in anyway. hopefully the rest of you will have better luck.

That's kinda odd since Stern doesn't refer students to GSP. You might want to verify what the coach told you.

no offense but yours stats were well below sterns average, much less its median

no **** quakerman you don't have to rub it in. I'm not a genius but i'm smart enough to realize that my chances weren't good in the first place. to tell u the truth only my SAT I was truly lacking i had a solid gpa and course load with good SAT II's and essays. the coach basically told me i didnt get in b/c of my SAT 1 (b/c stern's accepted students usually have 1400-1500's, which i totally understand).

i have a friend who has a similar gpa and similar test scores who applied early and she got in. if she got in who's to say i didnt have a shot with the tennis coach's help.

Unrealfire, how do you stern never refers kids to gsp. anyway, i'm positive the coach told me i go referred to gsp. he told me over the phone "i have some news, you got into nyu, but you didn't get into stern. you got referred to gsp."

sorry the hear you didnt get in where you wanted bigred......

i also thought stern doesn't refer kids to GSP.....in fact i remember seeing on the nyu bulletin board that they don't...............still if you did get into stern gsp, consider it because you don't even really take classes at stern until your sophomore/junior year

but good luck at everywhere else

bigred, you need to confirm this with admissions. Stern applicants are not referred to gsp anymore so it sounds like that coach is mistaken. Anyway, gsp referrals got their letters starting about three weeks ago so if you had been referred, you would have gotten a letter. Call and ask.

i'm POSITIVE i got referred to gsp (well, according to the coach). The conversation i had with the coach basically revolved around gsp. He asked me if it was "stern or bust" and basically told me the pros and cons of gsp. Perhaps the reason why i didn't receive a letter yet was because of my special circumstance (the fact that stern usually doesn't refer to gsp). The coach just found out my decision this weekend. Besides, if I didn't get referred to gsp, then what did the adcoms decide. The coach clearly told me "you got into nyu, but not stern."

btw, where did you find out that stern does not refer to gsp? wow, i feel so special.

You better call.

just called, the coach confirmed i have been referred to gsp.

maybe i'm a special case? perhaps the adcoms didn't want to reject me but referred me to gsp as a personal favor to the coach. who knows.

edit-------read this

oh yea, i found this too

read the last line of the last paragraph

Its weird that you didn't get a letter about a month ago with the rest of the GSP'ers....

If they're making an exception for you maybe you'll get a nice fin. aid package as well... I'd wait until you get your official acceptance letter before you decide anything

a nice financial aid package would be nice except that i didnt apply for financial aid. lol. and its probably too late to apply for fin aid now.

BigRed...I wouldn't worry. Those message boards are known for mistakes, and misinformation. Several students (over a period of six months) asked about the admit rate for tisch film, and were given about six different answer...not so precise.

Yeah, I've always been pretty sure Stern applicants still get referred to GSP, though most come from CAS.

Bigred-It sounds like a good deal...I'd take it. As long you maintain the minimum GPA (which isn't tough), you'll be in Stern.

Good luck.
