Ok so I'm applying RD to Middlebury and I know that they need a photocopy of a graded essay. The problem is, I'm home from my boarding school now, nowhere close to any of my history or english files! I don't go back until January 7th, will middlebury slay me for sending in my essay this late??

Honestly? I think they might. Do you have any local friends, or anyone in the administration who might be willing to fax things to you from your school? I would start making those calls today if Middlebury is one of your top choices.

Do whatever you have to get it. Now that admissions for Middlebury is getting tougher and tougher each year, there isn't much leeway.

It's impossible, my room is locked and the campus is empty with nobody on campus. This is so frustrating, arghh

I would call Middlebury to explain to them what your situation is. Also, there must be someway you can get a hold of those essays. Could you call public safety at your school? If you can get in touch with the right people, I'm sure someone could help you out.

I don't think the situation is as dire as lioninwinter is making it out to be, though that shouldn't dissuade you from doing everything in your power to get your hands on that essay. The people in admissions at Middlebury are humans. These things happen. Also, the first couple of weeks to a month after all the applications are filed are just spent organizing everything, reviewing probably won't start until February. This is why colleges notify applicants that they are missing materials, not everything gets in on time or perfectly.

Don't let this prevent you from focusing on other parts of your applications. It's just not that big a deal. I changed from regular decision to EDII two weeks into January, and mailed all my crap in on the third. It probably didn't get there until the sixth. I still got in. Your fine.

Again, to simplify my advice, because I can tell your a little bit stressed about it

1) Breathe
2) Try to figure out if there is anything you can do/anyone you can get in touch with who can help you get an essay
3)Breathe
4) Call Middlebury (they might not be there, okay, so wait until early January/whenever they get bacK) and explain what happened
5) Realize that this doesn't matter that much
6) Work on all of your other apps

I can't stress enough how the worst thing you could do in this situation is let it stress you out enough to the point that it effects your other applications. It's not a big deal. Good luck!

I sent in my ED supplement about 10 days late =X
because i was waiting for one particular essay to be returned
i sent them a letter explaining why

You should be fine...they have such a volume of mail to go through that by the time it arrives they wouldn't even have noticed that it wasn't there.

I'm in the same situation. Don't worry too much, my guidance counselor just told me to send it as soon as I get back.
