Can anyone tell me more about ASU?

I'm searching for a transfer school that offers good academics in design (architecture) or civil/structural engineering, w/o the addition of crazy time consuming workloads. And I'm also looking forward to get a good social experience, where people from different races and nationalities mix well. I go to WSU and I love the people but hate the school, which lacks organization in its depts.

Do people get along well w/ each other there? Is it easy to make friends? (I'm asian international)
How good are the programs there? Do they have good internships options?
Is it tough to get in there?
Can you describe the location and its surroundings? Like does it have easy access to major cities, etc.

I know a guy who went to ASU and he give me a few advices:
1. Make sure you keep a bottle of water w/ you all the time.
2. Buy an air conditioner.
3. Make sure you're ready to drink a lot
4. Know which dorm to go to (if you decide to live on campus), some are heaven, others are hell
5. Carry as many "safety caps" as you can (I believe he means condom?)

Do these advices really hold up? From the advices I assume its really hot there, and parties are, well, wild at the very least. I heard ASU has the rep of being a crazy party school, but many professors and advisors recommend ASU for its solid program. I'm wondering which one is true... I'll take party schools (WSU is one) as long as it has good programs.

Oh yeah what about U of Arizona, will that be a better choice? Both are highly recommended by my advisor (he strictly remind me not to rely on rankings like USNews etc)
Same question applies for U of Az.

Any infos are very appreciated

Thanks
