We haven’t visited yet, but are excited to make the trip! My son will be studying computer science in the engineering school.
My son was accepted today…Arizona State’s merit scholarship makes it more appealing financially than I would have thought.
Does anybody know if Barrett normally invites qualified freshman during admissions review?
My D was admitted in October and her acceptance letter said “we invite you to learn more about Barrett”. There’s a separate application that she had to complete.
It looks like regular deadline was 1/15, but there’s a late consideration application deadline of 3/7 and late II of 4/4. You can find information at barretthonors.asu.edu/admissions
Thanks, he only got the notification through his porthole. We will look for the mailed response.
I appears to me that anyone can apply, so don’t have to wait for mail. The “invite to learn” is nothing formal just a paragraph pointing them to check out the Barrett website.
I suggest reaching out to the people at Barrett and getting their guidance related to the timing of application.
The Barrett FAQs say there’s no minimum GPA requirement to apply and for fall 2021 they suspended use of ACT and SAT. For 2020 incoming class, avg UW GPA was 3.8 and avg ACT was 29 just to give a sense of range of students accepted.
It looks like Freshman can also apply Fall of Freshman year and current students can apply 2x per year.
Good luck!
Moonlightmom - Congrats!
Mine is still deciding between Fulton and a couple others.
We didn’t have the best general tour guide, but enjoyed our ASU visit overall. I thought the campus and Tempe were very nice - almost reminded me of a trendy resort. We have pine trees, not palm trees, so that was probably part of it.
Hi @GetCollege19 and @nucities, my daughter is a freshman in Barrett. Let me know if you have any questions.
Hi, when did you hear back regarding your scholarship?, i got accepted back in December and haven’t heard anything regarding my finaid package or any kind of scholarship. How did you hear about your award?
It was in my son’s pothole with his acceptance. Nothing fancy; not a letter. It just had the “congratulations” and if you scrolled down it showed our net cost of attendance minus the scholarship award.
Oh that’s strange. It doesnt show for me :/. Are you OOS or In state?
We are OOS. California
By any chance did you recieve a financial aid package notification as well? Because I’m not sure why I am not able to see that in my portal
I thought scholarships came after acceptance but it’s been nearly 1.5 months and I havent heard anyhting. I’m a domestic citizen applying from abroad… maybe thats why? Really weird.
i got my merit scholarship as an oos with my acceptance. the non-merit scholarships, i think, come out at end of March/April
We did not file a FAFSA at ASU. It was a late addition to his list. So no financial aid offer beyond the merit scholarship with the admissions porthole
Oh ok. Thank you for your help! I I thought I would qualify for merit scholarships but either I didnt or my different application pathway is holding things up on their end. Hope it’s the latter
My son applied in December too, and just got his scholarship info yesterday. It was in a small letter size envelope, not a giant one.
That’s amazing. Congrats to him! Hearing this fills me with a little hope too. Thank you!
Did he receive any notification on his myasu portal or via email, by any chance? So I know what to keep my eyes peeled out for.
You may want to reach out to the FA office and inquire given your different pathway and to verify they have all the necessary documentation.
I think the “standard” (New American) merit awards are based off a standard chart of GPA and test scores, so to extent you do not have standard US stats that could be a factor in delay as you don’t fall into the International bucket either. The website says students are supposed to hear about the awards 2-3 weeks after admission provided they have all the required documents on file.
