I know there's better and more prestigious universities out there, but I've basically narrowed down my list to these two schools. I'm kind of a chilled, laid back person, and I wish to attend a school with a similar vibe and student body. California is currently too expensive to live in, thus I've narrowed my list down to one of the two schools in the thread title.

Basically, I need help picking a school. I know the decision ultimately comes down to both my family and myself, but I'd like to hear some pros and cons of both, and get a feel of peoples opinions on both Universities and their surrounding areas.

I'm a transfer student, and I plan on transferring fall of 2011. I currently have a 3.30 GPA, which should be a little higher by time I make the commute. I haven't decided a major yet, but I'll likely study something pertaining to business, advertising, marketing, or the arts. While I do take my studies seriously, I'm a very social person, and I wish to enjoy my time at whichever university I choose. Some important deciding factors would be cost of living(e.g. housing) in each respective area, the night light and social scene, which area people find more comfortable/enjoyable, the economic state of the closest major city and surrounding areas, the academic standing of each school, the look of the campus, availability of scholarships, etc?

Considering the above, which do you believe would be a better fit?

Oregon is far more laid back; they take partying seriously at ASU (i’m not joking). Greeks dominate ASU, but are a joke at Oregon. Sports are huge at Oregon as well, ASU less so.

UO has temperate, but SUPER wet weather. ASU can get smokin hot, but suprisingly cold at night. Oregon is in a classic college town, and the whole state is gorgeous. Tempe is in a large city. Tons of nightlife, but not that college town feel. The state does have some beautiful areas, but you have to go looking for them more than in Oregon (IMO).

ASU campus is cool enough, but big, with sattallites throught the city. Its all modern stuff. Oregon is the opposite: small and really has a classic college look to it. You’ll be suprised how “Ivy league” parts of it look.

ASU has some excellent specialized programs (particularly in the arts, buisness, journalism, etc). Oregon is basically average in everything, BUT, Phil Knight at a few other big time donors are throwing money at the school (both sports and academics).

Oregon culture is very similar to that of California. Both states are broke; Arizona is in California style tail spin I believe.

I’ve never heard of someone not liking Oregon, I do however here plenty of people complain that the partying is just to much at ASU; I myself considered going to ASU for its Native American Studies program, but decided the party scene was just way to much. Keep in mind this school has a 95+ percent exceptance rate. It has some truely great programs, but many of you peers will be there for no reason other than to party.

Both have tons of Cali students and Alums.
