I'm from WA and already applied to the UW and WSU.
Because my stats aren't too great I probably won't have a chance at UW and I also applied to WSU because I needed a safety school - but I honestly can't really see myself going to Pullman.

A while ago I discovered ASU and found out that I could get really cheap tuition because of the WUE program there and since that info I'm absolutely hooked to that school.
I'm not too much of a partier and I know that ASU is THE party school but considering that there are 56.000 UG students attending it is probably a given.
I'm both a HS senior and a CC freshman and will graduate from HS with 45 college credits.
My intention is to major in Poli-sci and then go to law school and ASU's school seems pretty decent as well.

What do you think?
Would ASU be a good decision?

I can’t imagine being in a student body of 56,000 for college. If you’re stats aren’t that good, you’d probably benefit from a greater degree of individual attention.

The Tempe campus at ASU does not offer WUE tuition, and I would not recommend Downtown, West, or Polytechnic.

WSU is a nice school. U Idaho, UNM, UNLV, UH-Manoa, UND, and SD State would also offer you WUE tuition. If you are applying as a transfer student (are you?) Colorado State and Wyoming would not work; otherwise, they are good.

UH-Manoa is the most similar to ASU of these schools, but living in Hawaii can be a bit different from the mainland so you should consider carefully before committing.

gadad and noimagination - Thank you for your feedback!

gadad, my stats are poor because I immigrated from Europe to the States and my grades overseas pulled my GPA down. That’s the reason why I’m in WA’s Running Start program. But you are right. I guess considering ASU was not a good idea.

noimagination - Thank you! I didn’t know that Tempe doesn’t offer it.
My major would be on West but since you said that you wouldn’t recommend going there, I should probably just take your advice.
I’ve applied to UW and WSU as a freshman because I’ve not earned my HS diploma yet.
So, yes, I’m applying as a freshman.
U Idaho actually wants me They send me their Opportunity Application and really want me to apply and go there.
Which other WUE instituition do you think would be a good idea if I want to get good internships for Poli-sci and which would also have Pre-law advising?

As far as ASU is concerned, poli sci is offered on both Tempe and West. It’s possible that the West program is okay, but I’ve never heard anything good about the ASU satellite campuses.

Some schools require that you apply as a transfer if you have a certain number of college credits. I don’t know if this applies to any of the places you are looking at, but you should check. If you could apply to Colorado State as a freshman - and therefore be eligible for WUE - I think it is a nice school. But be aware that they have some additional restrictions beyond freshman status for their WUE scholarships, so check first.

I stand by the list I gave in post #3.

Another possibility to consider is community college. I could be wrong about this, but I’ve heard that Washington has a pretty good CC system and that UDub admits a fair number of transfer students. IIRC, they take ~30% of their class as transfers.

Well, I’m going to a Community College right now and I really like it but ASU just seemed - and still seems - very appealing to me.
I had a chance to take a closer look at the West campus and it’s seems pretty nice to me, but I’m going to visit before making a final decision.

Thank you! I looked into that and I could apply to Colorado State as a freshman,
and I also looked at the other schools that you listed in #3 but I keep coming back to ASU.

I guess I really have to visit the school ;)

^ Hey, it can’t hurt to check it out. I mentioned the CC option because UDub is a fantastic school and you might be able to transfer there easily from a CC.

ASU is awesome its where i’m going. I currently live in hawaii so DO NOT consider UH!!! The government is tanking and the first thing to go is education, they cut hundreds of classes and its taking people 7 years to graduate if not more…to save money so they didnt have to pay people they initiated furlow fridays which means every other friday there’s no school, from public elementary all the way to college. Its a bad situation and only gonna get worse as Hawaii flounders.

ASU is awesome, and you SHOULD go to a school that just straight up appeals to you thats how you know youd be happy there ASU is a giant school, the campuses break it up especially if youre not at tempe then theyre small. I’ll be on Tempe though and enjoying it. ASU has great academics, go check out asu.edu/excellence for all of the amazing stuff theyve been doing and the rankings theyve been getting. The school has been working very hard to become the “harvard of the west” and has been making monumental improvements, most people who dont know about the school currently just remember its party school stigma from the past. its got the #1 honors college in the nation right now, #11 business college out of public universities, and just getting better

Ultimately, go somewhere you’re excited about and are thrilled at the idea of going. Thats how you know you’ll be happy :)

noimagination - Thank you again
Well, yeah, I’m at a CC right now because of Running Start but the social life at my CC is like non-existent. I made friends with some really great people but they all have jobs and other commitments which makes it hard to do something together.
If I wouldn’t have my friends from HS, I’d truly feel miserable and that’s why I’m not sure if I should go another year to my CC. Right now the state’s paying my tuition, so I’m def. staying :)

I applied to UW, so let’s just see how that goes. I attended a German gymnasium till 11th grade and that’s why my cum. GPA is a 2.52 =/ but my GPA in my junior year, since I’m in the States is a 3.8 and I’m doing RS this year, so maybe WSU will accept me.
Do you think I should apply to U Idaho because they offer me their Opportunity Application?

I’m just not sure if UW will even accept me after another year at the CC and since my chances are not too good, I might still go there for grad school.
Thank you, again, for your input!

LauraG2011 - Wow! Thank you!
That’s really, really motivating actually. I still love ASU and it seemed right for me, but I guess I won’t end up going there. Some of my cousins live in AZ and I asked them about the West campus but they didn’t really have anything good to say about it… which really sucks. The Tempe campus is great, according to them at least, and offers a lot.
If I would go to the Tempe campus, however, I’d have to pay OOS tuition and that’d be as much as if I’d stay in-state.
I also really want to join a sorority and they apparently don’t have them at the West campus :(
