I'm currently a high school senior and have recently filled out the online application for Army ROTC. I had my interview at UNH and it went really well. The PMS and Scholarship Recruiter both said they would be surprised if I didn't get the scholarship, but I can't take their word for it.

Out of curiosity, what do you guys think my chances are of receiving one of the three scholarship levels? I know my GPA and SAT are a little below the averages, but they said my leadership skills were pretty sharp and my extracurricular activities could make up for it. Not trying to act cocky or insecure in any way, I just want a realistic idea of what my chances are. Thank you very much!

What’s your major? With the current budged situation, scholarship funds are being cut and the military is looking for technical majors more than anything else.

I honestly can’t tell you what your chances are… Your stats look decent, ecs are good. What school are you interested in? Contact them and let them know. They can sometimes help you, especially it you get the scholarship but don’t get into the school. Good luck!

@Scutrules

My list is as follows:
UNH, UNC Charlotte, UMass Amherst, University of Mississippi, University of South Florida, Hofstra University, East Carolina University, and Westfield State University. My intended major is Criminology, but that doesn’t fall under Technical. Is a change of major a necessity in my attempt to win the scholarship?

Does anyone know when the recipients of ROTC Scholarships are supposed to be notified if they made it past the first board, October 21st?

I don’t exactly know, I applied before the 1st board as well. The time you found out isn’t like a set date or anything… the PMS I went to said you could find out as early as November-December or as late as March! If you don’t get offered in the 1st board your application moves on to the 2nd, then 3rd if it doesn’t get accepted then. You’ll receive offers in the mail when they come in or nothing if they don’t come in. You can check application status online though to see when things occur. I don’t know if this helped or not, but I’m in the same boat as you and am waiting on the results as well!

The first board was pushed back to start November 4th. You will see your Army ROTC Portal updated if you are awarded a scholarship. Normally, though, the official letter that will be mailed to you after that, will indicate if you were offered scholarships to multiple schools from your list. The portal will normally only show 1 of the schools, even though there may be more offers in the letter. You should anticipate hearing something by December 1st for the 1st board. If you were not selected for a scholarship in the first board, there will be no change to the portal and your file will just roll to the next board.

Cornerback - I think it’s possible that you could get an ROTC Scholarship, but realistically, I think your GPA/Test scores may prevent it. I would suggest taking the ACT test to see if you test better on that than the SAT. If you have already taken the ACT and have lower scores on that, then I would definitely sign up for the NOV SAT, and study hard for that to improve your chances. I wish you the very best of luck, however.

MidwesternHeart, how did you find out they pushed the board dates back??

Okay thank you for that. I’ll try the ACT soon, I signed up to re take the SAT in December as well. I can definitely do better it’s just my strategizing wasn’t on key

I was informed by a ROO at an ROTC unit that the board was pushed back. It was a result of the Government shutdown.

For your major, not necessarily, people get scholarships with non-technical majors. But they are in the minority. I wouldn’t major in anything you hate, but id look at something technical. and you can always take criminology classes separately.
