Army ROTC

Hi -

My question(s) is for anyone currently in Army ROTC at Vanderbilt. I would really appreciate any reply.

What does your weekly schedule look like?
Are you in a fraternity? If so, how does this balance work out? Are ROTC kids typically concentrated into a particular or a few different frats?
What is the social life/ROTC balance like?

Thanks so much

I believe that senior Michael Greshko did an article in the Hustler on this subject in 2013.
Yep. Here it is.

Thank you. That was an interesting article. Although, I would like to know more about social life/greek and ROTC. Can anyone talk about this?

My son is a current AROTC cadet at Vanderbilt. He is an Engineering major and is also in a fraternity.

While all three require significant time commitment he seems to manage and still have time for fun on and off campus. But I do know he frequently has to pass on “fun” activities to keep up on his work. I think the biggest factor in that is his Engineering course work but I’m sure ROTC has an impact as well.

In general there is Military Science class/lab once a week, 2 or 3 mornings of PT (more if you need extra work on the APFT), and one weekend per semester of field training. There are various other activities that he mentions he participates in about once a week. Not every cadet is involved in every one of these additional activities (Meetings, community service activities, football games, etc). The work load increases for Junior and Senior year.

In addition to the article linked in the previous post you should look at all of the posts on the admissions blog from Nathan Hall, an AROTC cadet. Here is a link to his posts:
