Two West Point graduates who have been flying Navy jets in Iraq and Afghanistan recently get an easier assignment tomorrow - they will swoop overhead in a high-speed flyover at the start of the Army-Navy game.

"I cherish the opportunity to be a Navy officer. But I went to college at West Point and I will root for the Army team," Lt. Cmdr. Paul Campagna said in a telephone interview. "The ring I wear, it's from West Point."...

HE PLAYED IN FOUR Super Bowls, watched by millions upon millions of people, yet the game that most played on the nerves of quarterback Roger Staubach was... his first Army-Navy game in 1962, played right here in Philly at Municipal Stadium.

"It's the most nervous I've ever been before a game," said Staubach, who led Navy to a 34-14 win that year. "There were 4,000 Midshipmen at Bancroft Hall counting on me to beat Army, and I knew it would be difficult to go back there that night if we lost."...

Paul Johnson has his Navy seniors on the brink of a historic feat: a four-year sweep of Army and Air Force.

Should the Midshipmen (8-3) win the 107th Army-Navy game tomorrow, they will capture the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy outright for the fourth straight year and make Navy's senior class the first in school history to go 8-0 against the other two service academies....

Naval frigates larger than football fields open for tours, helicopter shows, military flyovers at 300 mph and pep rallies are among the public attractions in the Philadelphia area this weekend as the city hosts the 107th Army-Navy Football game.

"It's a huge game. It's like when Philly and (the) Dallas (Cowboys) play. Everyone comes in for the game," said Rhone Carr, who manages the Holiday Inn Select in Logan Township. "It makes Philly a tourism destination for the weekend."...

apparently certain other Plebes somehow went over to the Naval Station and "decorated" the Master Chief's house. Streamers, balloons, you name it. Neighbors thought the house was being vandalized and called the local PD. The police figured out what it was all about and left. Plebes made it back to the Yard. Next?

Army may have regressed this season in terms of record, but Navy head coach Paul Johnson thinks the archrival service academy has made progress on the talent front.

"I think they're becoming more athletic and run better. That's a good start," Johnson said. "They are beginning to recruit better players. We run into (Army) all the time (on the recruiting trail)."...

Anthony Piccioni and his Navy classmates can cement their place in history Saturday.

Bobby Ross lives in the house on Army's campus where legendary coach Earl "Red" Blaik once lived. The window in his office overlooks the field at Michie Stadium. Ross went to a military college and served in the Army; two of his sons graduated from service academies.

In many ways, he was a perfect fit when Army was looking for a coach following its 0-13 season in 2003. Ross won three ACC titles at Maryland in the 1980s, won a share of a national title at Georgia Tech in 1990 and took the San Diego Chargers to the Super Bowl after the 1994 season....

i dont know what game you were watching, but navy definitely did not dominate army. navy was the better team, but you couldn't tell until the 4th quarter. navy gets all the credit though, they have a hell of a coach and some damn good players. it was a lot more fun to watch this game, though, instead of the blowouts the last couple of years.

Homer09.... I agree with you
If I had to judge the game on heart..
Army won the 1st half hands down, forget the score.
For that I proudly salute them.

Navy won - because they are a better team who knew how to capitalize on another team's mistakes. Had Army played the 2nd half as well as they played the first half - we'd all be grinding our teeth today instead of crowing.

I think all Army football seniors, tears running down their faces at the singing of their Alma Matre....deserve our best admiration and prayers. Our future warriors were true fighters on the field against our mids. We may have won by points, but they are worthy of our respect and honor.

I watched this game at a Sports Bar with about 50 family members from our San Diego USNA Parent Club. At the end of the game one and all of us stood at reverent attention during Army's song and cheered proudly for them all.
And yes, we cheered loudly and proudly for our mids after that!!
