arrested?

theres a question on the app that asks whether or not youve ever been arrested...well...umm...i made a big mistake in a foreign country that led to my ummm...apprehension. i wasn't convicted or anything like that but i am on file, b/c my pic and thumbprints were taken...so i don't want to lie, but do arrests records like that transfer to the US? is it possible for the adcoms to find out?

Lying isn't a good idea. Talk to your guidance counselor who better knows the details of the situation for suggestions on what to do.

Does it say "arrested" or "convicted" on the application...?

Anyone can be arrested.........charged and convicted is another thing. Were you charged with a crime? Did you plead to something? I mean you can be arrested by error of identity. I don't know why Rice would care if you were arrested.....they might care if you were convicted.....do you know the difference?

yeah it doesn't ask whether or not you were convicted...it just asks, Have you ever been expelled? and Have you ever been arrested? then it says if yes explain on a separate sheet of paper.

and no i wasnt charged or convicted with a crime....

If you want to say no......you can have your family atty do a search on you and see if anything shows up.....I doubt it will.

If you feel ethically compelled to say yes.....work on your explanation.....mistaken identity, thought you were commiting a crime but your didn't......no charges, no plea that kind of thing.

This question goes to Character and ethics.......you could have been arrested for civil disobedience and released.....you know the shouting out or carrying an ugly sign during the last election and you were at a Bush rally.....you know how that went.

well id love to say it was for civil disobedience...but actually it was because this summer i went to france to stay with my mom's friend for a week and then i took a train to london to visit some relatives...in france its no big deal to drink underage, but in the uk it is...i wasnt aware of this and on the train i drank a little too much...you know how it goes. needless to say, i was arrested by the police at the train station, but i was let go with a warning when my uncle came to get me. still they took my pic and thumb prints and stuff. i dont know how i can make that sound good on an app.ahhhhhhhh!!!

I mean you can say no and sweat it out forever......ya know do your 4 years, get the degree and then have them revoke it!! Or you can be creative I guess. I can see that you are distressed about this.....I think you will get various opinions on CC and I think folks will tell you to be truthful. This is kinda messy though so wait a little while and see what some lawyer type sends as a response.

thanks for your input hazmat, i think ill just say no, because i doubt if its even on file in the uk anymore...they have millions of drunks there...why would they keep a record of me? that'd be funny though, if i said yes and, what with college admissions being so crazy nowadays, they accepted me because of my "interesting life experiences" lol.

How roudy did you get? How old was your uncle? It sounds like it may have gotten pretty funny. How long did they take to process you? I know a girl who was arrested at Harvard/Yale game for weeing outside because the line to the porta potty was way too long. She wasn't the only girlie flashing her stuff either.....I mean who can hold that against someone???

FINAL QUES: on the Part 1 or Part 2 or supplement? I mean can you do the common app+supplement and avoid the issue all together????

hmmm lets see...i actually don't remember ANYTHING! i bought a bottle of gin in france at the station..i drank some of that with some tonic that i bought on the train. i greatly underestimated the power of bombay and well i just remember talking with these retired australians sitting next to me about crocodile dundee, and then the next thing i remember, (theres like a four hour lapse here) my uncle is dragging me out of the taxi and i fall flat on my face in his front yard. he told me everything that happened, and i know he wasn't lying cuz he was ****ED and plus there was still ink on my thumb. he said the police called him because i had his cell phone number in my purse...they went through all my stuff...i dont think i did anything violent or anything, i guess i was just totally incapacitated, i usually dont get rowdy when i drink. whats worse, though, is my uncle and his family are DEVOUT muslims and they dont even cook with alcohol.

oh thats true...i could do the common app...i didnt even realize that.

Sounds like you might have had a bad morning......I love the fact that your uncle got to drag you out of a taxi.....not a good thing for a devout fellow now is it? Hey........how goofy to put the question on their own app but not on the common app or supplement.....I'd go that route....saves your issue.

Already checked. It's on the common app supplement.

They are scaring children ..... that is what they are doing. They want to limit the number of apps.....they want to eliminate party children and this is their first step.
