So on the FSU page where you have to select how you want to receive your financial aid I don't know what to put? Can someone explain these two options more.. thanks!

Choose how you want to receive your financial aid proceeds and refunds.

You Must Check One Method of Receiving Your Funds:

1.)I authorize FSU to deposit my net refunds and financial aid proceeds into my FSUCard account at SunTrust via EFT, including loans.

2.) I authorize FSU to mail a net check to me for my refunds and financial aid proceeds, including loans.

If you set up an FSUID account at Suntrust, any extra financial aid/scholarship money will be deposited via electronic funds transfer on the first day the funds are released after drop/add.

The student Suntrust account is available through your FSUID card and does not have a minimum balance and has free bill pay which comes in handy in sending money to the cable company or electric company for example. There are also Suntrust ATM machines on campus to get your money with no fees.

If you want a check, it will come via snail mail and take longer to receive but then you don't need to set up a new bank account at Suntrust and can deposit the money in your current bank account or credit union.

Get your FSU ID card and set up a Suntrust account at the same time during Preview. Find out what the account number is and give it to your parents. Deposits to that account may be made at any Suntrust bank throughout Florida.

I agree, #1 is better, even if you don't use the Sun Bank account as your main banking (i.e. you can always transfer out funds from the Sun Bank account to another bank account). The main benefit is immediate access to your funds, and mostly automatic payment of your fees through the electronic system. (In fact, tuition is taken out automatically without having to do any manual effort at all).

Here is another little known benefit: to get your grades online you have to have all your obligations paid. My son 'forgot' to return his books to the library before he left for break, therefore he owed $. After a roundabout way, I found out that because he has 100% Bright Futures, the library could code their system so their fee would be guaranteed out of his proceeds once they had been deposited. Ergo, grades could be viewed without having to be back on campus to turn in the delinquent books!

Same for food plan- deferral available based on financial aid package.

Bottom line, all fixed costs covered between Florida Pre-paid & Bright Futures, (except for initial deposits). Only variable spending allowance needed to be deposited to banking on a periodic basis.

The Tallahassee Government Utilities will let you set up an automatic payment where they transfer the money out of your Suntrust account each month for utilities. There is no fee for this payment method. It is the easiest way to make sure your utilities are paid on time from your financial aid money.

The Suntrust student account comes with FREE bill pay so you can pay other monthly bills such as cable automatically each month without worrying that you missed a payment or not having checks or stamps when you need them.

There is no minimum balance fee for the student account and you can set up notifications to email you when your account balance is running low.

FSU/UF- $5.15 (?!) was the fine for each DVD that was late. I don't know how late exactly, but late enough for the library to also charge the replacement fee! And, they did take it out of his Bright Futures $ as soon as it posted. So now he is out an addtional $103!!!

I will be interested to see how he hard he negotiates to get that money back (if and when he actually returns the DVD's!) Maybe when he is out of money....;)
