Has anyone received their admission notice yet? If so, what major did you apply for?

yes, I was just accepted for fine arts major with illustration minor.

Hello Bubblemom, My son is thinking of applying to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. What is the school’s reputation, especially in fine arts, painting, sculpture etc. I was concerned that the acceptance rate seemed high but the retention late was low.
Thanks,

From what I’ve read their acceptance rate listed on some sites takes into account their “At Night” and High School public programs they offer and so appears much higher than it actually is.

I think most majors are around 10-15% and some are more competitive and others less. I’m not exactly sure where fine arts would be ranked.

The one overwhelming thing I’ve heard from graduates is that it’s easy to get in; but, incredibly difficult to get out with a degree.

Been a long time since I have logged in here. My understanding of the acceptance rate is the same as that of Tigertail277. Their At Nigh and Saturday High programs are quite large, so those rates affect the overall acceptance picture.

My son applied and was admitted to Illustration with a concentration in Game Art/Design. I was told by an admissions person that they had a huge number of applications to Illustration and that it took them extra time this year to review the portfolios so they could narrow it down. He didn’t give me actual numbers of applications, but just commented that it was much more than usual.

We know multiple students at Art Center, and all claim they have never worked so hard in their lives. That seems to be the common comment about Art Center – you will work until you drop but that it will be worth every moment. Its reputation is excellent – usually listed among the top 5 in the country. It is known for the success of its graduates finding employment. My only beef is that they don’t have purely merit-based scholarships for first-years – need is also factored in.

Son has spent one year in a program that looked wonderful at another university. Although he liked his art classes, decided that the program he went there for wasn’t what it was advertised to be and that he really wanted to go to Art Center.
