I know the grades don't count for much, but if I have a particularly difficult course load, is it okay if I don't take an art elective for a semester? I know it's best to have more classes, but how does it look to colleges if I solely complete the art requirement instead of going over it..?

Also, I would have 1 free period if I did take an arts class and 2 free and less extra work if I did NOT take an art class.

Forget the colleges, don’t take an art class. Just don’t. Take ANYTHING before you take an art class.

Could you explain that post, FunStuff? I’m a bit confused. I enjoy art classes (performing arts included), but I really don’t know if it’d hurt my other classes or not.

Just don’t take an art class. Don’t do it man.

There is nothing wrong with taking an art class as long as art is something you are at least interested in or passionate about. So if you are taking Art Class, make sure you at least take 2 more art classes to show your committed.

^agreed. we have required art classes for underclassmen, but i’m taking AP art history after.

If you want to take art, then take art.
I’ve been taking Art 1 this semester (1st semester senior year). I’ve taken orchestra every year, but this is the only art class I’m taking in high school. I still got accepted ED to a very selective college, so I guess it didn’t really negatively impact my application.
Anyway, taking an art class might seem more productive and positive than having 2 periods of nothing.

Thank you so much guys! I agree with you, iforgot37, that it may be better than 2 periods of nothing. I have a while to decide, and I have a 2-week add/drop period once school begins next year… any other advice?

He’s right; I’d use the free-period to self-study.

Art classes are HORRIBLE!
