Hey everyone! I'm a upcoming 1st year at e-school still deciding what I'm going to major in. Although I'm in e-school I kind of want to start designing (art, painting, sculpting) as well. Can anyone reccomend me a few great classes? Thanks!

Another e-schooler who likes art! Awesome. Nice t’meetcha.

I was just wondering this myself and second this request :)

Awesome! Yeah I believe designing/making something look aesthetically appealing are very important for engineering. Plus who doesn’t like to make cool stuff!?

Bump please

My D did this summer art class and loved it. Too few people know about it.

She had an engineering student in her group. Art classes take up a larger chunk of time than a regular 1 hr class, so sometimes they are hard to fit in your schedule. She also liked that since all you do is art (as well as hiking and having fun) for the 3 weeks, you can enjoy it without the pressure of other school work.

Yeah art classes require huge chunks of time intermittantly which does not mesh well with eschool scheduling. I would definitely recommend taking once per week through the community art classes instead or that summer thing.

Thanks for the advice. My schedule this semester wouldn’t accomodate Drawing 1 (plus the classes were already full) and I think I’m going to take something for my major second semester to try and get ahead. ARCH1020 did look interesting though.

Hazelorb, do you have any more information on once-a-week classes through the community? Like a site or something? Or will we find out more about this once we’re on-grounds in the fall?

Oh I just meant it probably exists, I don’t know of anyone who offers those but CVille is so artsy… I would just ask any of the art galleries downtown, they would know.

If you don’t need the academic credit, you might check at McGuffey Art Center, just off the downtown mall. It’s a old school that’s been repurposed as studios for local painters, sculptors, potters, etc. A lot of the artists there offer group and private lessons. These lessons are geared to hobbyists, not necessarily future artists, and are less time-consuming/ more flexible than the regular UVA courses.
