I'm a junior in high school and I haven't taken any real art classes, only web design but that doesn't count. Next year my schedule is almost completely full with AP classes, should I take the time to take an art course?
also im not a good painter; however im very visual and I like to think im creative should my lack in artistic skill keep me from pursuing architecture?

If you plan on architecture, you may need a portfolio for some schools. Depending on where you live, you might consider taking art classes during the summer. Some park districts or libraries offer art classes. Or maybe at an art school. My son did both since he was 5 years old.

I agree with msheft. Even if the schools you are applying to do not require a portfolio, art experience is a definite help in architecture school. If you are thinking of taking an AP for the sake of taking an AP choose the art class instead. However, if you cannot fit an art class into your school schedule, take the time to take an art class outside of school or just buy a sketchbook and begin drawing.

My son told me recently the best thing he did was to carry a small sketchbook and pencil with him every day during his senior year. He must have filled a couple dozen of them. That plus watching some online art instructional videos to get an understanding of scale, perspective, shadow, shading etc. gave him some self taught basics... Said it all came together with his first year studio sketching class. Even though he still can't draw a straight line longer than a half inch (and is not allowed to use a straightedge for studio projects) what he can do now is quickly represent an idea from his head onto a scrap of paper in a way that even I can understand his intent.
