How important it is UCal system to have full credit art class credit in high school? In my state art requirement is only 0.5 credit that I have completed in my HS freshman year. Now as I am going through UCAL app, i noticed that they need full credit in same art class?

Do they reject applications based on this? do they give some exceptions to this rule? My stats are pretty good otherwise, but this is concerning (want to apply for CS).

It is doubtful that your state’s 0.5 year art requirement is a convincing case, since students applying to selective universities regularly take more than the minimum requirements set by their high schools or state universities. You might make a more convincing case if there were no other visual or performing arts courses besides the required one available at your high school.

Thanks kazeno and all for your comments and help. ucbalumnus, I want to major in Comp Sci and of course have taken way more courses than in sciences, math, social sciences and languages. Just that art is not my thing so never looked to do beyond what I needed. There are more art classes in the school for folks interested in them, like year long band; pottery and AP Art etc…

UC system seems to want a yearlong long “one” course (or two semesters) and another 0.5 (or semester) credit in a unrelated art wouldn’t seems to qualify me.

Too bad I couldn’t take chances in UCB’s CS program without it.
