Art History and French @ Carleton

I researched sciences at Carleton since D will be on pre-med track, but she might major in something else that she likes and have biochemistry or neuroscience concentration. I looked at number of courses, instructors and study abroad programs in both art hist and french departments and both look great. Does anybody have experience with either one and if this is a good idea for pre-med student. Thanks in advance.

I am pre-med with some experience in the french department - I love it. I’m assuming your daughter is already interested in French? I can’t speak to the intro classes since I haven’t taken any here, but I’ve taken a few of the upper-level classes (two on French literature and one on French film) and I enjoyed them immensely. There’s also Coffee and News, a three-credit “class” that meets once a week on Wednesday afternoons to discuss current events, which is nice if you want to brush up on a language. I can’t speak to the Art History department since I haven’t taken any classes there, but it is definitely possible to be pre-med and also take plenty of classes in areas other than bio/chem/physics.

OP, I sent you a PM.

Thanks, reese and sunmachine! D had French for 4 years in HS + taking private lessons. Will see how she will do on placement test. She would like to do Paris semester and is interested in french culture in general. She might do this dyad bio/phil first term, if offered and french or art hist. We are visiting Carleton next week and I really really hope that D likes it. Thanks again.

Have a Carl in Paris now and he is happy as a palourde!
