I also posted on the Cal board...

I am an art history major accepted at Cal and UCLA (junior transfer). I've heard some opinions about the program at UCLA that sounded really unappealing to me as far as what is emphasized in upper division classes. I'm considering the Cal program, but I wonder iif i'ts similar in its emphasis on crit theory (as in I'll never see an image again during undergrad) or if it's a bit more interdisciplinary, integrated with visual literacy...

if any of you at UCLA currently know a student in the program that would be willing to start an email correspondence with me, it would be greatly appreciated.

cheers.

i don't relaly know that much, but my friend (who didn't apply to UCLA) got into both Davis and Cal and picked Davis becuase they have a better Art History program.

I think aside from the academic programs another thing to consider is the firsthand glimpses of art you can get in the cities around the school. I'm sure San Francisco has lots to offer, but Los Angeles definitely has a lot as well. UCLA is liek five minutes away form the Getty Center, the LA County Museum of Art is really good, Norton Simon in Pasadena, Huntington Library etc...not to mention its own museum and sculpture garden on campus! there are limitless amounts of galleries and musems galore all over the city.

I don't know what your career interests are, but I'm sure many of those places offer internships and whatnot.

wow you better make a decision fast...only one day left!!

I would say UCLA because it rocks and I'm going there :)

actually, my SIR isn't due until June 1. I just accepted wednesday, transfers find out much later than inccoming freshmen.
