I'm a first year looking for some advice on selecting an art history course at UofC, particularly in regards to the core requirement. I have an interest in art, but nearly no exposure whatsoever in terms of instruction.

I decided I would try to get into either Introduction to Art or Art from Alexander to Augustus (14009). I am enrolled in the latter course for the second quarter. Platt Verity, the instructor, is supposedly very reputable and a good lecturer. However, I am not entirely sure if a background is really required. I doubt there is a prerequisite since it appears to be a topics course and I can't tell much else without a syllabus. Also, since the class enrollment is 45 people, I'm guessing it's lecture based and not discussion based? I'm prepared to work hard but if someone with more experience could give me a better idea of how a 14000 art history class will be like, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
