Art History Major in Texas

I'm applying to UChicago, WUSTL, Williams, and Vassar this Fall; however, if those don't work out I need a backup. I was thinking UT Austin would be a good backup since I live in Texas, I am in the top 10% of my class, and I love Austin. I would probably try to transfer after my first year, but you never know I might like it. I want to major in Art History, so is UT Austin good in this major? If not, are there other good backup colleges that are?

A good friend of mine attended the graduate program in art history at Texas and absolutely loved it. She thought the professors were fantastic, and apparently Austin is a really fun place to be.

Another friend of mine was in the art history program at SMU. She wasn’t fond of some of the students, but apparently it has decent placement.

If you’re considering Chicago, you might also look into Northwestern. Its program is at least as good as Chicago’s, and it’s more similar to your other schools than the latter. Oberlin would be another excellent option and has hands down the best art museum of any LAC.

I don’t really want to go to SMU because I’m not very religious, the surrounding area is boring, and it is too close to where I live now. But I’ll look at Northwestern and Oberlin. I’m visiting UChicago later this month, so I might check out Northwestern while I’m up there.
