is art major in columbia university good? my friends told me its grad art school is pretty good...but how about the undergraduate art major?? how good is that? what's its strength and weakness??

I was looking at the IVYs for art and design offerings serveral years ago. Frankly, I wasn't overly impressed with Columbia. You should check out Brown, and Yale, which I think is much better. Brown students also have the advantage of being able to take art courses and even geting a degree at RISD. Cornell and Upenn have more of an art/digital design/engeering focus, which is quite interesting.

thank you taxguy!! but....yale,brown,cornell, and Upenn are way too difficult to get in......anyone knows any university ranks lower and has good art courses???

columbia is as difficult to get into as yale, brown and penn. NYU Tisch has a great art program, Parsons/New School, Carnegie Mellon does too (shocking but true)...
Are you looking for art schools in general? Or a good art program within a larger university?

im actually looking for a good art program within a larger university⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯

Take a look at University of Cincinnati, DAAP school. They have a very highly ranked school of art and design.

for major universities, as taxguy said, university of cincinnatti is pretty well regarded. also: syracuse's graphic design program, carnegie mellon (as mentioned), nyu steinhardt for fine arts, nyu tisch for photography, washington u st louis, brown (as mentioned), ucla (digital media or something is supposed to be amazing, cant remember exact program), tufts (5 year with the SMFA), i heard some good remarks about university of rochester, BU school of fine arts.

and as for small(er) liberal arts college, iv heard good things about wesleyan.

however: you will take WAY less studio classes at any of these programs than you would at an art school, but you can always get an MFA years out if you still really love it. i guess it just depends on what you want to do. if you want to be a professional artist, eh, i might consider art schools a little more.

Thank you all!!!!
