I’m a college freshman majoring in 2-D studies (painting and drawing- though my concentration may be subject to change because I enjoy 3 dimensional art and printmaking…I just love art) and I am currently minoring in Japanese. I have an interest in the language and took college courses of it in high school, but now that I’m taking it at my actual college I am quickly realizing that it may take more work than I am willing to do for something that is only my minor. The language and the class is so demanding I’m afraid it will take away from my art classes. I will most likely drop my Japanese classes but I am on the fence of what I should change my minor to? should I do something with computers so that I’m able to use technology to my advantage? should I get a minor in marketing? I also have no interest in learning another language. I appreciate any help or suggestions!
If you can get a minor in business that might be good. The most successful art types I’ve seen also have some business acumen (good in both the right and left brain) so they can manage their own businesses.
While some general direction might be good, don’t force yourself. If marketing and business really grabs you, fine: minor in business. What if you don’t like it for whatever reason? It’s perfectly fine to sample different things and then choose.
a minor is required at my college for what I am majoring in, so its not that I’m necessarily forcing myself, but I do have to choose a minor. They don’t particularly grab me as much as a minor in the arts would, but I am looking for something that would make me even more useful in my field.
