I am not very good at knowing things about colleges and I am still learning about them. However, it is time for me to decide what colleges I want to apply for especially since I will be taking my ACTs and SATs soon.
I really want to major in art (preferbly fine arts or studio, I am not sure what it is called) and design (most likely graphic design) although I am still very general about the whole major thing. I am having trouble picking one specific one at the moment. Although I am open to suggestions that will lead to a good future.
But back to my main question,
I need to know which colleges have exceptional art/design programs. I also would like to do something academically (like business and such).
Oh, I also live in Ohio so I would rather want to go to college in the Midwest or along the East Coast.

I have looked at Columbus College of Art and Design just because it is close by, but I think it mainly focuses on the Art and Design majors. Would I be able to take business courses elsewhere at like Ohio State University?
But then again, I would really like to gain experience outside of Columbus.

I think somebody mentioned Brown to me once, but I am not sure.

Any help would be appreciated.

Keep in mind studio art and graphic design are pretty different...
Studio art usually focuses on drawing, painting, and fine arts like 3D figures.
Graphic Design is computer generated design.

Either one you choose, I would recommend University Of Cincinnati: School of Art, Architecture and Planning. Talk to taxguy, his daughter goes there. Good luck!

Generally as an art major, you have to focus on a particular area (Graphic Deisgn, Illustration, Animation, Sculpture, Fiber Arts, Painting, etc). Schools vary as to what kind of programs they offer, whether it be an art school, LAC or university. That being said, you have to do your research accordingly. Check out what programs are offered, what kind of requirement they have, and can you also take business classes or whatever else you may be interested in.

As far as Brown, there is a new, dual degree program with RISD and Brown. Only a handful of kids get accepted to this each year. You must be individually accepted to each school, which in itself is difficult. Check the requirements, both academically and artistically. The standard is quite high in both these schools.

Schools like Syracuse, Wash U, Towson may also offer such programs. Wash U being the most diffuclt to get in, and Towson probably the easiest (with Syracuse somewhere in the middle).

Once you take your SAT or ACT, you can do research on collegeboard.com to see where you stand academically in schools that offer the programs you are interested in. Check out collegeboard.com for admission stats (average SAT scores, GPAs, SAT IIs requirements, etc).
