So many questions...

(1) My school do not require any portfolios. Then, would an art portfolio help my chance?

(2) I'm applying to their architecture program, but my art portfolio features very few (or none) architectural art pieces. Is that okay?

(3) I'm trying to send my portfolio directly to the professor. But I do not know him personally. Do you think it's good idea to do that? Or is there another way?

(4) What kinds of art should I put? Most of my arts are only pencil drawings.

(5) Could someone criticize my art pieces? I feel like they are horrible....

Thanks

Hello! I’ll try to answer these to the best of my ability…

While it’s nice to show interest by sending in a portfolio, if they don’t require a portfolio it most likely means they won’t be considering artistic ability in the admissions decisions. So it’s really up to you whether or not to send it in. The worst thing that could happen is that they just won’t consider it.

That is totally okay. The majority of architecture programs understand that very few students get formal architectural education in high school. That’s what the college education is for. That being said, it wouldn’t hurt to have a few drawings of architecture or architectural details just to show your interest.

Can you send it as a supplementary material with your app? That would be the best option.

It depends on the school. A lot of schools would prefer to see a range of subjects and materials.

I can take a look if you’d like! I’m an AP Studio Art student and I just went through the college application process, so I have a decent idea of what is needed in a portfolio.
