From my knowledge, when you apply to colleges, you have to apply to a certain school (School of Business, School of Art and Sciences, etc.). If I'm not going to send in an art portfolio, do I still have a chance at getting accepted?

Yes, on many applications you are asked which college/department you will be applying to. However, I read somewhere that 75% of college applicants list "undecided" as their major. As far as a portfolio is concerned, it really depends on the particular school. Some art majors require a portfolio, others do not. For example, my D applied to Tulane, U-Vermont, Northwestern for art, all of whom do NOT want an art portfolio. I get the sense that you could major in art at these schools as long as you were admitted in general. Other schools she applied to like Wash U-St. Louis, Carnegie Mellon, Skidmore, Alfred all required or strongly recommended portfolios. Hope this helps.
