Art Programs at Columbia?

Hello- my daughter is a junior this year in High School and we are beginning our college search. She does very well academically and has strengths in math, science and visual and performing arts. She would like to apply to schools with both a strong academic reputation and great visual/performing arts programs. We know Columbia has an excellent academic program- what about its arts programs?

hi there - so columbia really prides itself on having a strong boutique arts school and a lot of art opportunities for undergrads without it being necessarily a conservatory art experience. though certainly in some areas it is not quite as impressive as the conservatories out there, in others it is without question a top tier art institution with some solid facilities despite the older buildings and urban space, and hopefully with manhattanville even stronger facilities (though that may not impact your daughter at all)

as a start check this out - [CUarts - Arts Initiative @ Columbia University](http://www.cuarts.com/) and [Columbia University School of the Arts Graduate MFA Programs](http://wwwapp.cc.columbia.edu/art/app/arts/index.jsp).

three programs in the arts are actually housed at barnard - dance, theater and architecture, though all three (with dance to the least extent because there is no corrolary at columbia) developed using the various resources of both columbia and barnard in mind.
