In order to qualify for admission, one must have the art portion of the "A-G" curriculum completed in high school. I have had only one trimester of art, if I took two my senior year, would that qualify me?

"Beginning with 2006 graduates, students must satisfy the "f" [visual or performing art] requirement by completing a single yearlong course from a single VPA discipline. Though students may take the course over different academic years, it must be taken in sequential order."

I have a student who has taken only 0.5 credits in performing arts. He is a very strong student academically and has met all other admission requirements. Is it imperative that he take another drama class?

The student must complete the Subject Requirement, including VPA, in order to be eligible in the statewide context (read about eligibility requirements). In order to be eligible, the student must take either:
- A UC-transferable (per Welcome to ASSIST) community college course of 3 semester (4 quarter) units in a VPA discipline; or
- Another semester of drama at his school, assuming that the 0.5 credit he has completed is in drama, the course he has taken and the course he will be taking are a single yearlong course, and the course is on your school's UC-approved course list as satisfying the VPA requirement.

even if out of state?

Bartleby are you a teacher?

to the OP -- don't know about trimester thing,, but Bartleby is right. My HS screwed up on the A-G thing for art/performing arts (it didn't get approved), so in my last semester in HS I took Photo 1 at CC (UC transferable) which counts for a year of the "f" and that worked fine.

So, in my upcoming Senior year, there is no way to work it into my schedule other than at a community college?

No, you can work the 2nd two trimesters into your schedule so long as they are sequential (i.e. art 1, 2, & 3) and so long as the art course is acceptable on the a-g list. You don't have to go to cc at all. It's just an option.

Beatchick, sorry, I was quoting from the UC website.

I took a TV Production/Diction class my first HS year, they were tied together and were a semester each. Would this count as the fine arts requirement? If not, them I am ****ed.
