@veehee and @JBStillFlying, This is incredibly helpful, thank you! The lack of AP award is interesting, hadn’t thought about that angle. It sounds like overall she has good reason to be excited about the prospects of Pratt-- now just have to see that she’s accepted and offered some break. Crossing fingers…
My daughter got a region gold key for her portfolio as well!! I noticed a few schools say “matches gold key scholarships” not sure what that means, but she is emailing all her admissions counselors to let them know. Cant hurt! Congrats @Isichitiu!!!
Thank you all! and congrats @moonpie !!! Let’s hope they will win at the National level as well! Good Luck! She will email the counselors.
thanks for the tip on scholastic awards all…i will get my D writing to her accepted schools asking about extra $$. Any acceptances from RISD yet? Still waiting to hear from them.
Just curious… did your daughter receive money from Temple or art merit from Tyler?
My D received a Temple merit scholarship and we had hoped she’d get a Tyler scholarship too but she didn’t. Nevertheless, the COA was inline with the other schools where she was accepted.
Updates on acceptances: SVA (waiting to hear about scholarships at some point after Feb 1), University of the Arts ($), and University of Hartford ($). We’ll be heading up to SUNY Purchase next week for a portfolio review/express decision. I suspect FIT won’t be until late March/early April. Anyone receive acceptances from Parsons, MICA or MassArt yet? We don’t have a sense of when to expect those decisions.
@pinkmomagain my daughter received acceptance with $ from MICA on Jan 16th.
Isichitiu, congratulations! Good to know. Trying to gauge when to expect responses.
My D also received acceptances and $$ from MICA and Parsons…still waiting on RISD, but suspect it will be after Feb 1. She applied back in November to all of her schools, so perhaps that’s why the early responses. Also we’re headed to see MICA for the first time this weekend at their early accepted students day. Anxious to see the area. We’re checking out SVA, Pratt and Parsons in late Feb but the SVA letter recommends paying the $500 enrollment fee now to guarantee housing spot. She still needs to decide on a school, so not sure if I should risk paying early in case she doesn’t end up at SVA. Anyone who has a student at SVA have info on how hard it is to get housing?
Good question @neapmom !! Until we hear from RD programs, SVA is my daughters top choice!
My D was accepted to Mass Art Jan 13th but with little merit money compared to others. Really only covers the cost of tuition increase this year. We are regional, not in state so tuition still a bit high. Has anybody heard if Mass Art gives much financial aid to OOS or regional kids? They told us to expect financial aid letters in March. Its her top choice. She loved Mass Art but the money was disappointing. She has also heard from Montserrat and Lyme, both with very generous merit aid, about half tuition. I work across the street from Maine College of Art. Probably too close for comfort for my D but still a contender. Otherwise, waiting on SMFA, RIT and Alfred University.
Update on admissions:
CalArts No news yet
Ringling No news yet
Sheridan - Decided against applying
MICA - accepted, with $$
SCAD - accepted, with $
University of the Arts - accepted, with $$$. Visited last week and he didn’t like it. Facilities could not compete with the other schools.
RISD - No news yet
SAIC - accepted, with $$
SCAD was pretty stingy with the cash. (20k) MICA offered 40k, but the location and overall vibe we got has moved it down the list. He loved SAIC after the on-campus visit over MLK weekend, so it is at the top of the list now. Has anyone heard from CalArts, RISD or Ringling? We are dying over here.
RISD RD isn’t till March, correct? That’s as of a couple years ago, at any rate.
That is correct, RISD/Brown, CalArts and USC (those are the ones we are still waiting on) won’t be until Mid-late March from what I can tell from last year and their admission websites. We are enjoying the lull to be honest!
Just found this thread and S18 is interested in Animation. For those of you who applied with this concentration please list the top schools he should have on his list next year.
Check out these dedicated art schools: Cal Arts, Ringling, SCAD, RISD, SVA, Pratt, MICA, MCAD.
Some uni’s to look at: USC, LMU, Chapman, CMU, NYU, UCF, CSU-Fullerton, SJSU
I would also add Sheridan (Toronto) for Animation.
@mainbeaches, congrats on her acceptances and offers so far. Re: MassArt merit, I’d say you have nothing to lose by going back to ask for more. My D is OOS and received 13K merit offer.(Grateful for that but not enough to get her there.) We are also waiting for Tufts/SMFA and Pratt to come in… anyone who applied RD receive decisions yet?
@jazzbutcher- love the name. May need to change mine to Southern Mark Smith.
Thanks for the suggested list.
