I agree that you will never know. I am still waiting to hear from both RISD and PRATT. RISD and CMU (CMU will not mail out results until 3/31) are my strech schools. If I do not get in, it will hurt, but I will accept it as Karma. I am a solid students but my SATs were average.
I got my decision yesterday! Accepted to BFA Digital Arts! It was not specified whether it was 2D or 3D which is alarming, I will contact admissions soon to clarify that I got into my first choice which was 3D… I also got an e-mail today that I was awarded the presidential scholarship!
They started emailing about scholarships today 3/23 the day after admissions came out…
Wow… very surprising indeed… Hearing from all the awards you’ve gotten it seems like a loss on their part. It’s always good to contact the admissions office to hear why you got rejected. It could help you improve and open your eyes to some potential weaknesses in your portfolio which you have never considered before… Also, unlike most Art Schools, Pratt is very strict on grades… They only accept students with high GPAs and above average SAT scores… But if it wasn’t one of your top choices then no need to fret either way…
Every school is different and you can not compare one to the other… You still have a chance!
@bsue913 Congrats!
My D was also accepted in the Digital Arts program with intent to major in 2D. We went and spoke with a couple of the professors in that department. They explained that after the foundation year, you choose 2D or 3D.
@bsue913 Yeah I think it may have been my grades, I have a 3.2 UW/3.4 W so I don’t know if that’s below their average or something, 1310 SAT/28 ACT…idk. My portfolio was also very targeted towards RISD, lots of variety and not a real focus to a certain style or meaning…idk. Oh well, first rejection, so I’m not too sad.
@pastelrain Pratt is big on grades. RISD not so much - they are all about the portfolio. So you might stand a better shot at RISD.
RISD decisions are for sure coming out at 4 PM EST today!!
RISD decisions are out!
Waitlisted at RISD. Ah, well.
Nothing yet here! Does not look promising…
Rejected. Only stings a bit.
HOWEVER, unless I get a really good FA packet from MICA, it looks like I’m Ringling '22!!
My daughter was rejected, too. Looks like MICA '22!
Still Nothing! OMG! RIngling and MICA are great schools. Be happy that you now know where you are going or ,at least, have narrowed it down to two schools. Good luck to both of you. An exciting future awaits!
DD rejected RISD also (she wasn’t keen on standalone art school anyway, only applied for the Dual program w/ Brown.) Other art options are Uni’s (Northeastern with Graphic Design/combined major options, Grinnell would be StudioArt & Science combined major, and waitlisted for WUSTL Communication Design.)
I just got my RISD rejection! I am somewhat relieved. Let’s see what PRATT has in store for me!
Looks like the only one we’re waiting to hear from now is Stamps at Univ. of Michigan–and then my daughter can make her decision! Acceptances at MICA, SCAD, Bard, Brandeis, and Univ. of Vermont. I think it’s really between MICA (art school) and Bard (LAC with strong art program). She’s leaning strongly MICA but is considering going to an admitted students at Bard, just to make sure!
That was the problem… I think your grades are fine, you actually got higher SAT than me. For digital art Pratt was very specific on drawings. They wanted a lot of drawings more than anything else. They didn’t care about the style they just wanted to know that you could draw because it is a “mental process” drawing from observation etc… Every school is different and you can’t really send the same portfolio to every school… As for RISD, don’t sweat it, I didn’t even apply because personally I hate the idea of going to school in Rhode Island, I’m a city gal. Ringling has a great program that you will benefit immensely from. You are entering the next chapter in your life and you should be excited about it!
Congrats to all with recent acceptances. It looks like you all have many options.
@KCHWriter I would love to hear about your D’s experience at admitted student day if she attends. I’m visiting Bard with my HS junior D in April.
