Hey, I'm Mike and I want to go to art school. Problem is, my grades have been really all over the place throughout highschool.
Main schools on my list: MassArt, SCAD, Pratt, maybe SVA.
I'm planning to major in Animation, and SCAD is my first choice if financial aid matches up, but otherwise I would like to go to MassArt if I can get in (I'm an MA resident.)

My GPA is only a 2.8 but my SAT score is a 2170 with a 570 in math as the lowest. I've taken some art classes outside of high school, but not many IN school, meaning my recommendations are coming from academic teachers and not art teachers. I also decided to take an algebra & trigonometry course this year to stay strong across the board (also doing AP history and an honors English, honors journalism, and honors fourth-year French class). I'm not strong in math and I'm afraid this will affect my GPA further and drag it down this year. I'm already struggling to keep up in the class.

But my portfolio is all right; I've visited about six or seven schools and gotten portfolio advice at each and I'm strengthening it until my application needs to go in. I'm also a strong writer and don't foresee any problems with the essay. It's just that I'm scared my GPA is too low because the high school transcript is such a huge part of the application and my high school history has been struggling in math and occasionally language, parents' divorce last year that messed with me, transferring from a different school sophomore year, the list goes on.

Anyone have advice on what the rates and scores are for MassART? Do I have a chance? If I don't get in anywhere, I will probably just wait a year and work since it's not worth dealing out thousands of dollars to another school only to have to take four years plus at art school anyway since most of these places won't transfer art credits & require the foundation year.
