do we really have to submit the common app and supplement by 10/15 if we're submitting an art portfolio?

I think the deadlines are different for the application and the art/music supplements (at least they were in the past)

However, the deadline for the supplement is the date when it has to be received, NOT a POSTMARK date, so pay attention to that!

Yes. For EA consideration of your art supplement you have to send in
your material to reach Stanford by 10/15 and for RD consideration by
11/15.

Also, Stanford should have received your completed application prior to receiving the art supplement.

It says "postmarked" by Oct 15. Isn't that "sent" by Oct 15, not "received" by Oct 15?

So if I'm planning on submitting the arts supplement, I CAN'T send that by Oct. 15th and then send my app in on the deadline? Both have to be in at the same time?

I actually just found out about this arts supplement a few days ago, so if it's the latter choice, then it's not going to work. My school's guidance dept. is awful and I have to have my finished application to them by Oct. 10 because it takes three weeks for them just to get my transcripts together and sent out. So even if I got my app to them DONE on Monday, I wouldn't get the arts supplement in to Stanford in time.

EDIT: Just found this on their website. "Please note applicants with extraordinary talent in music, art, drama, or dance may choose to submit supplementary materials for review. In order for this optional Fine & Performing Arts Supplement form to be evaluated, both the Common Application First-Year Application (or the Common Application Transfer Application) and Stanford Supplement to the Common Application must be post-marked or submitted online by the Fine & Performing Arts Supplement deadlines. These deadlines are October 15 for Restrictive Early Action and November 15 for Regular Decision (March 15 for Transfer Applicants). "

polkahard,
Aren't you supposed to submit your application on line?

I am sure that it will be fine if the transcript and the recommendations are sent by Nov 1, as long as your part and the application fee are in before the art supplement.

Before this year, the application consisted of 2 parts-- the first part was just some info and the payment, and the second was essays, etc. You only had to submit the first part before art supplements. So my guess is that they just want to make sure you are applying and paying the fee before they review any supplements.

This is crud for all Stanford Art supplement applicants.

In order to send in an art supplement, I think you have to submit your Common Application form by 10/15 and have it received before you can send in art supplements. That means you have to complete the Common App and be satisfied with it, because after you submit it, there's no way to change it anymore.

The Completed Application has to be mailed in by 11/15 if I'm applying RD with a music supplement? As in not just the essays, application, and supplement itself, but the Secondary School Report, the Teacher Recommendations as well?!?!?!

I am pretty sure that it is "just" the application, essays, supplement and the fee. The rest can be sent by the "normal" deadline.

do the teacher recs have to be filled in on the common app, or are they sent seperately, or both?

I don't know how your school does it, but at my school you give the common app teacher rec print out to the teacher... the teacher writes it and gives it to my counselor... my counselor makes copies and send them to the schools i'm applying to.

so the answer is the teacher rec does not have to be filled in on common app online. that would be stupid, retarded, and inefficient

I didn't mean does it need to be filled in online. I meant, do we need to send letters of rec ALONG with the filled in form for teachers on the common app, or do we just need to have the common app section filled and nothing else is necessary...
