Hello!
I plan to submit my artworks, and I plan to tailor them into a logical slideshow.
However, I don’t know whether the committee sees the art as a slideshow or just a grid so they can view everything at once?
Thank you!
Hello!

Well, at most colleges, the committee does not see them at all. If the AO thinks the portfolio warrants a review, it’s sent to a faculty member for review, who will then rate.
In terms of how to set up your portfolio, do what you think is best within the colleges’ guidelines for portfolio submissions. Don’t worry about the mechanics of how they are viewed. There is no standard answer, and you have no control over it anyway.
If you can, take your portfolio (on a laptop) to a National Portfolio Day and get input/feedback from art schools admissions officers.
@skieurope I understand. It’s a shame though, I really want to give them the best viewing experience possible, and I have a rather splendid idea to arrange my works too.
Anyhow, thanks for taking time to answer!
Most of the schools seem to use SlideRoom, and have their own specifications as to how many, what size, and what they depict (includes x life drawings, etc.)
@Itisatruth Thanks for the input! Sadly, I’m an international student, so that isn’t my option.
I didn’t know a national portfolio day exists! It must be a very artistic day.
@PetraMC yes, I am aware. However, I don’t know whether the committee views it in the style of a slideshow or just a grid/collage. I would love to give them a memorable viewing experience.
https://nationalportfolioday.org/ @theDOVE well it’s not just one day, it’s a series of events in different cities where multiple art schools convene and help review student portfolios. Sorry you can’t attend in person!
@Itisatruth ah, so it must be a very artistic series! If I’m lucky enough to be accepted into a university there, I will make sure to go and look at everyone’s artworks.
Thanks though.
Substance > style. Focus on the contents of the portfolio. A “memorable viewing experience” of subpar content will not be beneficial.
@skieurope I wholeheartedly understand your point. However, regardless my artistic abilities, I think it is ‘an artist thing’ to try making everything satisfactory for the viewers. My style and skills can’t be improved in a span of a few weeks, I don’t even know if I’m competitive enough, but I honestly want the committee to enjoy the slideshow/grid/collage.
I can’t know for sure, but I don’t think you will be able to upload it as a slideshow. Each piece has space for a title and description, if I’m remembering correctly, so I suspect it’s a clickable grid on the other end.
@PetraMC I understand. Hmmm… it sounds like a gallery-style…
Thank you! You have been very helpful ^^
