Art Supplement to Brown

I am applying early decision and have major interest in concentrating in Visual Art. I have already made my 10 slides for the art supplement (I’ve been doing art extensively and with a private teacher for 10 years now).

9 of them are various oil paintings and colored pencil sketches to showcase my style. However, I did take a photojournalism internship last summer to see if I was interested in photography as well. Would it be advisable to include one of my photographs from my internship to show my “diverse body of work”? Or should I center it around painting/drawing since that is my main medium, and a photograph would be distracting/not fit?
And if I do send in a photograph, should I add an explanation page of what pieces I sent and why?

And also, does anybody know if I have to send in my Common App and Brown supplements before sending in my portfolio?

don’t know about the photo etc, but do know that it is not a good idea to send supplemental portfolios etc, until you have the common app at least done/sent. (otherwise your other stuff has no place to be “appended to” and may get lost in the volumes of stuff sent in.)

I’d send in the photo as well, as long as it’s up to the standard of your other work. You might want to send in a page explaining your choices - at the very worst, they won’t read it.

Of course you should send in a title page with your work. I wouldn’t send in a page that has lots of info about your thoughts, etc. The VA department probably won’t read that. Just title, medium, size, date completed. The admissions department will send the portfolio to the VA department.
