Hey everyone,
I’m going to submit an optional art supplement with my application and I was wondering if there’s some “magic number” of pieces I should submit. Some places limit you to ten, others to four. Should I do whatever the limit is? Less?
Thank you!
Since you’re not applying as an art major, there’s no set number. That said, since you’re submitting them as additional information, don’t overdo it–I’d recommend fewer than 10 and to make very, very sure they’re not overlapping or redundant with each other. @greenteen17
In regards to visual art supplements specifically, I know schools such as UPenn have a MINIMUM limit of 10 art pieces so I think it would be good to keep that in mind. When I submitted an art supplement I sent various pieces and organized them into styles and collections – three overall. Don’t forget to write an artist statement or explain the meaning/techniques behind each piece!
I think it’s going to come down to how you want to present yourself. My D did an art supplement at a school that had a minimum of 10 pieces. She decided to include pieces from all 4 years of school to show the progression she has made as an artist, rather than show her 10 best pieces. So that’s one way to look at it. If you have any award winning pieces, make sure to include those.
