So I have great stats and extracurriculars and make a lot of art, however some of my pieces are celebrity portraits. Is it ok to send these portraits to colleges or will it hurt me
The quality is what matters, not the content.
IMO one should only send an art supplement if it is of an extremely high (art school level or close) level. I would have your art teacher or another professional look at your work to help you determine if a supplement would be a positive for your application.
Okay thank you. I’ve been reading some other threads and they say that art supplements can only help, they cannot hurt an application. How woud it hurt your overall application if the art supplement isnt that great?
My opinion stems from know that admissions officers are really busy. So IMO:
- Time could be spend on the art supplement that could better be spent on other parts of your application.
- If the work is viewed as mediocre it may be viewed as a waste of time.
- If you have art listed in your ECs admissions officers don’t need proof of your work unless the quality is outstanding.
In the end it is your application so do as you wish in terms of sending in a supplement.
A really bad supplement can certainly hurt your application. I agree with @happy1
