I got an email saying that based on my application, I was put up for consideration to this program. Not sure what it meant as far as admission to my school of choice (Stern), I called the office of admissions and they said i needed to apply for this program and then if accepted, I would be put up for reevaluation on my application to Stern.

My question is, when applying to this program, if i get accepted, am i LOCKED IN to the program, and binded to attending it and NYU, or if i apply and get accepted, is it just like another offer of admissions like any regular offer?

THANKS ANY HELP WOULD BE SUPER!

I’m not sure if this is true or not, but I if you decline the invitation I think your chances of gaining acceptance is DRASTICALLY slim. HEOP is for students who are economically and “academically disadvantaged.” For one reason or another, your family income being one definite reason, NYU is considering you for the program. You have to go through a competitive interview with other considered HEOP students and THEN in April you are notified of your acceptance. No, the program is not binding and if you get accepted to Stern through HEOP you aren’t required to go. You can decide. I’m actually kind of shocked and slightly concerned you’ve gotten an email for HEOP ALREADY. Shocked because it’s kind of early, and concerned because I requested to be considered for the program. I’m sure they’ll email others later too, but yeah. I wonder why you got a notification so quickly?

idk yo… maybe its cuz i applied really early… i applied in like november?

Every NYS resident who fall into the category of being economically/and or historically disadvantaged is considered for this program. You still have to be a competetive student with a fantastic application to be considered. If your SAT/ACT are lower than expected then you would fall into this category as well. They start notifying students in late January even through March, so don’t think that just because you didn’t hear, that that is a bad sign. You will be invited to an information session and an interview. You are then notified around the April 1 notifications. If you get accepted thru HEOP, then you get accepted period. You cannot decline the program if you want to go to NYU.

It actually is a good program, workshops, advisers, free tutoring if you need it for any of your classes. A stipend for books, and if you are HEOP, not CSTEP, good Financial aid.

Well, i think if you decline the program your chances are immensely decreased. As said before, it’s for the economically and academically disadvantaged.

If you get accepted, your not legally obligated to attend the school but if you do decide to go to NYU, i’m quite sure you have to attend the program.

I know!..I’m shocked that a reply was given so quickly. I’m waiting a response as well and haven’t heard jack from NYU.

Worried yet?

No… If you decline the program if accepted, then you will not be admitted to NYU.

Ok, wasn’t 100% sure. ( I thought)

I was just a little surprised that someone got a notification so quickly, I assumed that they started letting students know in February. Don’t worry Fasinro, we have PLENTY of more time to be notified for HEOP. Fingers crossed!

oh ok, so if you get accepted to the HEOP program, then to be admitted to ur NYU major, you HAVE to accept this program as well.

but if you choose you dont want to attend NYU at all and choose a completely different university, then if you are accepted to the HEOP program, you aren’t required to accept your offer to the HEOP program or NYU, correct?

Very simple…If you get accepted to NYU, it is thru HEOP, whatever school you applied to. If you chOose not to go to NYU, then that’s your choice.

dshmizil, when you applied to NYU did you use their Embark application by any chance? Because the valedictorian in my school received a HEOP email already as well and she applied through Embark.

naw man common app
