Article: American Dream Is Elusive for New Generation

And it’s actually a very nice place to live, says the guy who lives there.

And i’ll stick in my upper middle class suburb of NYC thank you. Smart upper middle class kids do productive things in the summer (think internships, shadowing, research, writing up Intel/Siemens, and writing essays).

Oh, my.

This thread is going nowhere good.

Please don’t feed the ■■■■■!

That creature is no ■■■■■, just a conceited, arrogant ■■■■■■■ who needs to be taken down a few notches and shown what’s what. A punch that bloodied his or her nose would do nicely as well.

I want to barf at that last comment by Jason about staying in NYC… I’ll bet he’s never been to the projects that are only within a 45 minute subway ride.

Who’s your supervisor? I wanna call him and ask him to quiz you about some articles that supposedly you “read” in Science to see if you actually learned anything…

haha momofthreeboys, wasn’t trying to knock on Dorchester, I had a great time there. It would be a great neighborhood were it not for all the crime down there. The Red Line still goes to Cambridge and now even Somerville, that’s how I get to school every day :)

The same applies to my block. :)

Most of the crime is in a few fairly well-defined hot zones. I feel bad for the people there, but most of the neighborhood is peaceful and safe. We raised a kid here and let him walk to school (about six blocks) and back every day without a second thought once he was about 8. I really can’t emphasize enough how overblown the reputation of Dorchester as a rough neighborhood is.

^Yeah I agree, it’s pretty bad for Boston but it’s reputation isn’t always deserved. It was pretty bad 2 years ago I think but I haven’t heard as much about it recently. I don’t really go there a lot so I have no idea. When I went there for my summer, I was in middle school.

That being said, I believe that someone from Dorchester can achieve the American Dream!

Jason might get beaten up there.
But he would probably face the same risk on the Upper East side of Manhattan.

Edit: This is a joke by the way. And I don’t even know where Dorchester is.

We should only be so lucky.

“i try to socialize and impress the undoubtedly important doctors, lawyers, and professors”

^^I am guessing this person makes the same impression with these people as he has made on this thread.

jasoninny, in reading your posts I am reminded of something that I heard when I was a 1L in law school: “If you haven’t figured out by the end of the first week who the class jerk is, it’s YOU.” I wish you luck in the real world. I have a feeling that you’re going to need it.

I am not as charitable; I do not.

Eh as for the comments wishing i get beat up- nahhh. A well placed insincere “im sorry” usually prevents violence.

Im smart. Smart people aren’t ret*rded. Put 2 and 2 together and you will figure out how i act infront of societal Elites. Why doctor ___, please tell me about your wonderful Interventional Radiology clinic! Mr. [traditionally jewish surname], how is that big corporate case you’ve been working on, still trying to maximize the number of billable hours? (mutual chuckle ensues)

I just want to point out that the jerks in real life sometimes rise to the top. Many a wall street baron were not the nicest people… Greedy, selfish, inconsiderate of unemployment of others- not your everyday neighbor.

Too smart for apostrophes, apparently.

No, you are - and even that’s an offense to anyone who is!

I refuse to comment on the rest of your ridiculous post.

Smart upper middle class kids do productive things in the summer (think internships, shadowing, research, writing up Intel/Siemens, and writing essays).

If they were * that smart* they would not have so much anxiety about their ability to be accepted to college, and would spend the summer expanding their universe outside of their comfort zone= the mirror.

People who are actually interesting and intelligent, don’t think they are the center of the universe.

@ksarmand. Hey eager beaver, if you are going to quote, quote correctly. I clearly typed “aren’t”

^^^^^
Hard as it is to believe, even smart kids get rejected at HYPSM…

That doesn’t fix your original error or stank attitude.
