Article on endowments NYT

Very interesting article about Exeter's BILLION dollar endowment from the NYT

At Elite Prep Schools, College-Size Endowments - New York Times

THanks for the link, I enjoyed reading that story.

I have to say that I feel conflicted when I think about my daughter leaving her $8000/student public school (sorry, all sports and after school activities need to be canceled!) to go to a $40,000/ year school that then uses its endowment to double that expenditure to $80,000/ student (sports and activities galore and required!). It is a huge concentration of resources.

It doesn't seem fair, but not accepting FA for my daughter to go to BS wouldn't change anything in the big picture. In fact her school has one less kid to accommodate.

Beyond the facilities, which are not the highest thing on my list, I think the boarding schools really help the kids most with the low ratios of students to teachers.

Here is an Exeter alum, now Yale freshman's, perspective on the story taken from his blog.

Money Money Money: Elite Prep School Endowments | the Sam Jackson College Experience

Exter endowment is over 1 Billion dollar now.

Hi all- this is Sam Jackson here. Thanks for clicking through. Happy to help answer any questions about how endowment plays out @ Exeter v. Yale, though directing them as comments on my site would be better, 'cause it's finals time here at Yale and I get email updates of comments but not CC follow up posts : )

I go to a private PreK-8 school in the SF bay area that is known for having fairly wealthy attendees (as well as a lot of kids on financial aid) and our endowment is only 12 million. Go figure?
