My D got an email. She was accepted into PACE academically before, but now got rejected for MT and waitlisted for BFA Acting and BFA Film/TV Voiceover.
Anyone has an input on Hartt, LMU, Evensville, SCAD and Shenandoah?
Still waiting on BU, Syracuse and NUY Tish.
Finally heard from Ball State so DD has now heard from all 16 schools to which she applied. She applied Acting and MT at all schools that allowed her to do so. She was equally interested in both options, let the auditors know she would prefer if they were going to give her an offer they could chose which program they saw as the better fit. Super grateful she has so many good options:
Accepted BFA
Millikin Acting
Missouri State Acting
Oakland MT
Ohio University Acting
Otterbein MT W integrated Dance Minor
Point Park Acting
UArts MT
Western MI Acting
Wright State MT
Waitlisted
BW MT
Texas St Acting
Ball State MT
Rejected
Montclair
Webster
UNCG
Rider
Now time to make a decision. She really saw every school on her list as a fit so she is taking a very deep dive into curriculum, dorms, talking to current students, trying to get that āvibeā.
My D received separate communications. Academics first, then BFA
Any insight into Harttās MT program? My son really enjoyed his faculty interaction at Unifieds, and considers their program one of his top choices.
Ok, Interested in your opinions. BA in Acting/Theater for these three schools. Which is best and why? UCLA, Baldwin Wallace, Ithaca. My son wants to act, write, direct, and engage in collaborative experiences. Thanks.
Us too. No clue. It does seem to be taking along time. If accepted it will be hard to plan a visit within time constraints.
Right? We love CalArts as an option and fingers crossed (hard)ā¦ but itās the one campus we havenāt had a chance to visit. This is a problem Iād be happy for her to have! Missing school at the end of her senior year to visit the West Coast? Yeah, sheād be fine with that!
Iām not a parent of an MT/Acting Class of 2026, but I wonder if it might be more helpful for people seeking feedback on the programs their children have been accepted to to start separate threads and perhaps post the individual thread link here? I think there have been different posters whose posts may have gotten overlooked, and that way it might also be helpful for people in the future who are doing a search and trying to find more information about specific programs.
Anyway, itās just a thought. Wishing everybody !
LOL. I hear you. BAL to your daughter.
My D also looked at BA programs. I canāt speak to UCLA. She decided not to follow through with the Ithaca interview when the only time slots left conflicted with an on campus experience at what ended up being her top choice. Her research indicated that the BA cohort at Ithaca was much larger than at the other schools she was considering. Their website also mentioned expected participation in student run productions very specifically, which might be ideal for your student if he wants to put up his own work. My D wants to work with mainstage productions.
After a redirect from BW BFA Acting to BA, she is considering it. She has a friend in the music program who told her that BFA Acting and BAs are both cast for straight plays and work together often, some of the acting faculty may differ.
Academically, my D could consider BW a safety, Ithaca a high match, and UCLA a pipe dream. Your son may want to consider the academic environment if thatās important to him.
I attended UCLA Theatre many years ago and itās still following the same format. From what you said your son is looking for it seems that itās the perfect fit. There are many opportunities to act, write, and direct. In fact they encourage doing it all. The students are smart and motivated and the education is superb. A student of mine is at UCLA now. This is how he describes it āSo far, I am very happy with the program. Whatās important to know before going is that the program places a serious emphasis on a holistic theater education and general education as well ( so those looking for an acting bfa and to immediately dive into studio training will not find TFT to be a good fit at ALL). Even though you are admitted for a specific emphasis, the first year is almost entirely general performance and technical courses for the entire freshman class. I actually really enjoyed this and thought that it provided an important base vocabulary to continue expanding and growing as a theater artist in general, and not just an actor. This year I have started my studio training, and Iāve felt that it has gone really well. In general, things that I particularly like: faculty is awesome, lots of new and experimental opportunities, and getting to experience a ton of different things, without being cornered into a specific avenue early on.ā Hope this helps!
We have finally heard back from all of the 8 schools that my son applied to for Musical Theatre BFA.
Accepted:
Rider
Hartt
Cal State Fullerton
Baldwin Wallace (not accepted for BFA, but considering BA Theatre plus Music minor and graphic design minor or double major)
Waitlisted:
Oklahoma City University (Acting BFA - didnāt actually apply but auditioned at Unifieds)
No:
University of Oklahoma (made it to final consideration list - this was a painful no as it was a top choice)
Didnāt Pass Prescreen:
CMU
CCM
Penn State
Also considering:
Johnson and Wales and Cal Poly Pomona for Culinary/Food Science
Cal Poly Slo, San Diego State, and Cal State Long Beach for Graphic Design
We plan on visiting Hartt, Rider and BW on spring break in mid April. Hoping to learn more about the programs and that one of the schools will just click with my son. So far he hasnāt felt inspired by any of the CA colleges that we have toured. Hoping he finds his place!
Wow thank you. This is very helpful!!! I will read it to him.
Thank you!! Hope your D finds her best fit.
I live in Bay Area, CA. If you want to squeeze in a quick visit, plan to fly into Burbank Airport. This is a very easy airport to fly in and out of and closest to CalArts location. Hope you hear soon
Thank you!
New School acting BFA out tonight. My D just accepted. Yay! Just waiting on 2 more nowā¦
Hi. Iām wondering if you can confirm that the undergrad students at TFT have to compete with the MFA grad students for performances or leadership roles? Someone told me this happens at UCLA. Thank you.
Youāre welcome! Let me know if he has any more questions.
Would love some insight and/or advise:) Nazareth vs. Western Michigan Univeristy
