My son is considering this program for this coming summer. He will be a rising sophomore and looking for something later in the summer (July 10th or later). Does anyone have any thoughts? We are planning on doing his prescreens in the next few weeks. He just needs to repolish a monologue and tape, songs are ready.
My D went to the Artsbridge program as a rising senior and found it to be very valuable. She primarily liked the opportunity to really get to work with people from a variety of different programs so it was helpful for her to decide where she wanted to apply and what she wanted out of the programs that she applied to in the fall. I’m not sure how different it is than the Artsbridge 2 program since it is aimed at different prep paths, but she found the quality of the program to be very high quality.
Thank you @MTBackstagemom ! We have had a number in our area do artsbridge and liked it so I assume 2 will be good. He is looking for something more prep (vs show) for his entering sophomore summer! I think he is going to tape and send in a submission!
We looked into it last year. Seems like a terrific program, but unfortunately, it was very far out of our reach financially.
@MThopeful2022 I know it is awful! All the summer prep intensives are so expensive. i Wish we had a good one local.
@buggirl74 What are you close to? There are so many options and many are very reasonably priced
@Notmath1 we are by CCM but honestly their summer stuff is just ok. You don’t get their staff at his age. Also we have an issue with dance nationals so he has to go after the first week in July.
@buggirl74 What about Cleveland Musical Theatre college prep weekend. It was in early October last year and has an excellent reputation and cheaper because it is only 3 days, and many good college musical theatre department directors give classes. Also Overtures at Baldwin Wallace is supposed to be very good and the department heads are teaching. Others here may know of more.
BW Overtures is very good, but that one is just for rising seniors. They do have another program, I forget what it’s called, but it is on their site. I think that one is open to younger classes, and is 2 weeks long.
Cleveland Musical Theatre does get some great colleges to attend. It makes me laugh when I think of it, as it was created in part by a friend of D’s from Youth theater. He is about 23, did 1 year at point park before deciding college wasn’t for him, and has made a whole career for himself doing college and production workshops out of pure hustle. Just goes to show - there are many paths
Hopefully he will do both!!! We have had friends of his do both and they loved them! I think BW’s younger intensive is in the music department vs the MT so you don’t get the same staff. He would love to do overtures but we know how competitive it is! Fingers crossed for a few years from now!
We know the folks involved with Cleveland Musical Theatre and have been trying to get them to push the October workshop up a bit. October feels very late in the process now unless you really have your act together.
@artskids Yes I feel the same and would think he would do it his junior year . Oct seems so late these days!
