hey everyone,
maybe i'm just missing this, but is there a way for an applicant to rice university to submit a music supplement? does rice accept the common app arts supplement or do you have to mail stuff separately?
thanks!

Are you trying to be a music major? [Shepherd School of Music - Rice University](http://music.rice.edu/undergraduate/freshman.shtml)
lists the requirements if you are.

nope, just as part of my regular application. i saw the music school requirements, but didn’t see anything else on the site.

Hey there

OK, I’m an ED applicant and I wanted to do the same thing - send in a clip of me performing a solo or chamber piece. But I called the admissions office and the woman told me that unless I was interested in majoring in music, sending in a clip would be a waste of time because no one in the admissions committee would listen to it.

And if you think about it…let’s say for some reason they did decide to hear it, it would not make any difference unless they were musically knowledgeable.
So, my advice would be to use your time instead on the actual application (:

okay thanks so much good luck with the ED decision!! crossing my fingers for you ;)

haha thanks!

Hopefully we’ll one day be able to say hi on campus haha

Good luck!

I tend to agree at this. I know somebody who got into all-state orchestra for 3 or 4 years in a row and sent in her recording. It did not make any difference because she did not choose to major in music. (She was wait-listed. She did not apply ED though.)

I think a prestigious music performance program like Shepherd School of Music is a professional school which offers BM degree, not a BA in music (like musicology, music theory, music history, etc.) They prefer those students who dedicate their lives (and maybe their souls) to music PERFORMANCE (mostly, except for its composition sub-program) – and hopefully some of these talented students will go out and compete with students from other music conservatories after a few years of intense work.

On the other hand, a lady in the admission office did say that if you show a strong interest/potential in engineering, you will get some bonus points.
